Uploading 3D video to YouTube?

AgingTechNerd wrote on 1/10/2022, 3:00 PM

I am creating 4K side by side 3D videos with twin GoPros. I would like to be able to merge and upload to youtube. Can the latest version of Magix Movie Edit Pro or lesser version do this still? I saw this tutorial about the 2013 version and this is exactly what I need to do. Is it still possible using the current version?

@AgingTechNerd

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

Sadly the tool seldom works due to constant YouTube changes to their upload protocols and sticking to the default auto options often means producing a file of below best definition. It is best to export a video where you can manually select the frame rate and resolution for yourself from the drop-down menus and then save it to a hard drive and then use the upload tool on YouTube to load it to you YouTube account.

Export the file as an MP4 file for easiest acceptance of the file at the YouTube End.

Ray.

That's fine I really just need the software to sync up the two videos and convert to SBS half width with the 3D attribute in the metadata. I'll worry about getting it on to YouTube. My question should have said.. does the 3D handling still exist and is the workflow and selections still as they are in the 2013 tutorial?

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

It's actually a correct use of the word which has many meanings but yes "occasional" would have been a better choice. Having spent a few years working among folk to whom English wasn't their native language I learnt to be careful with my words. Double negatives are another trap.

Hi Eric. To my mind, 'Occasional' means more typing than 'odd'. 😉 (There I go again, where I maybe should have typed 'To my way of thinking' as I tend to type the way I speak on a day to day basis.

So in reality I use 'odd' when I think the chances of anything are being less than seldom (which would have been my other choice) , and seems a kinder and more hopeful usage as a percentage of chance when there is very little. (IMHO).

In the mean time, and getting back on to the subject, does anyone else have any other solution for @AgingTechNerd

Hi Ray. I have one other thought:

@AgingTechNerd

I notice you say you are wanting to produce your video from twin GoPros. I think that means the files produced by the cameras must be frame-accurate matches if you are to achieve what you want to do. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that can be guaranteed.

Or am I completely misunderstanding something?

Hi

@emmrecs has raised a good point - if the 2 GoPros can be linked via WiFi/Bluetooth so that they are Master/slave with stop/start recording controlled from one camera, or both linked to a mobile phone for remote control, or controlled from a single remote control, the issue of frame accurate matches should be minimal.

If they can be linked and you have not done so I would highly recommend this, it can save a lot or editing and syncing.

If you are starting the recordings individually then you will need to match and trim the 2 recordings before applying the 3D Stereo effect. If the audio on both cameras is good enough you should be able to use the Align other audio objects with this track. . . . function to get them in sync - select both video clips - the audio must not be ungrouped from the video - and right click for the function.

Thanks. I've downloaded the MEP 2022 30 trial. No where in the product description could I find 3D mentioned so I'm glad it was retained. In the MEP 2013 tutorial I referred he does say it did embed the correct 3D metadata YouTube needs. So hopefully MEP 2022 retained this as well. So thanks for clearing this up. I'll start the trial shortly.

BTW I found this video I used to insert the 'frame-packing=3' syntax into the metadata using Handbrake and it worked for me.

Also here is my first (and crude) 3D YouTube attempt. RIveting footage of a passing snowplow on a country road. When I say crude it's because I stumbled through the following workflow before I learned about MEP 20XX. I used FFmpegYag to convert the L & R movie clips to half width, then made them into a SBS 16:9 using iMovie, then followed the video above to insert the 3D metadata using HandBrake, then I uploaded it to YouTube and to my amazement.. it worked!! I see I have some vertical and probably rotational alignment issues I also lost my 4K 60 fps resolution along the way. But it's a start. Now I am hoping I can do it all in one step now using MEP 2022. I'm going to try to reprocess this video tonight. Hopefully the MEP 2013 tutorial steps will be easy to reproduce in MEP 2022. If not I will likely be asking on here. Otherwise I'll be posting the result.

I really appreciate all the time everyone has put into this thread so far. It bugs me to no end that 2010 3D wave faded again. I'm going to record as much of my home video/photo content 4K 60fps 3D now in hopes a glasses-less 3D display emerges soon and with the emerging popularity of VR headsets I can let my grandkids see our travels and kayaking adventures in 3D 4K.

Corrections and comments invited.

Thanks.

I've been told I'm immature. Not odd. Anyway going to start to reprocess the snow plow video using MEP2022 now..

So it looks like MEP2022 is just crashing. I try to drag a file into the first file (Left camera mp4 first) onto the timeline and the programs just closes. When I restart it I'm activating the trial all and creating the project all over again. It just crashes.

I thought I read that MEP2022 was ok with running windows 11 arm in Parallels? Is that not the case?

@Scenestealer

Hi Peter.

Your point is duly noted but I was referring the the likely chances of anyone being able to give a direct reply rather than whoever is asking the question. 🤣🤣🤣

I would never accuse anyone asking a question here as being 'Odd' 😉😇

@AgingTechNerd

I did look through your 3D example and for me the usual problems with watching 3D video persist. Possibly due to too much video editing has made me over sensitive and looking for defects. I do have a pair of the requisite glasses but it looked more like chronic chromatic aberration than 3D. Maybe my eyes are too close together for this to work well with me.

I'm not sure why my brain refuses to accept such images as 3D but what I think I see are the two images separately playing at once. One for each eye. I sometime also get double vision on small sections of the screen with thin objects like tree branches, but again with that chromatic aberration either side so maybe a narrowing of the overlap between the two streams would do it. While on YouTube I search out more results with varying degrees of of success with most just looking out of focus with not much detail. As I said though it is probably a defect in me rather than faults with the videos.

The main thing is always produce things for yourself first and then if anyone finds it and likes it as well that's a bonus. Anyway, I can talk, I only have 14 subscribers and have no idea who they are 😂

@AgingTechNerd I don't consider myself particularly odd but your YouTube video looks very odd. But then I don't have a "pair of the requisite glasses" mentioned by @CubeAce. What is needed to view your video? Is there an app available for those without the requisite glasses.

AgingTechNerd wrote on 1/12/2022, 7:53 PM

@CubeAce @ericlnz That video video I created is really a kluge because of the way I processed it. Vertical alignment, rotational alignment, sync and who knows what else. I created it as an SBS and Youtube defaults to anaglyph (which is what I'm assuming you mean by the requisite glasses). Viewing it using anaglyph glasses is painful. If you can view it in SBS using a VR headset or Google cardboard using a phone with a good display it's less painful.

i really want to reprocess this video with MEP20XX but the MEP 2022 trail is crashing the second I try to drag a file into it. In the meantime I'll try installing the trail on a windows computer.

Is there a way to open a Support Request with Magix or does it happen on this forum?

There's a Support button at the very top of the forum page. But you need to work through it before getting to the stage of submitting a ticket. There are forum posts on this if you search.

Yup will do. I know I need to slice and dice it a bit more. I should know the "does" and "does nots" in a day or so. I'll be back... Thanks.

@AgingTechNerd

In the past, other people have submitted problem video clips via Google drive for us to test to see if a file crashes our systems or not as sometimes it can be component dependent as to whether a clip works or not. MEP 2022 can be very resource hungry or it could be a problem with the Go-Pro codec used as we have seen that before.
