Uploading

williamandrews06 wrote on 2/6/2013, 4:06 PM

Try as I might, I cannot upload video to 'show and discuss'. For the third time I have a green screen with audio only. I carefully followed John's advice, particularly with regard to deleting any blank space. I still suspect this is where the problem is. I left click at the end of the movie where there is a green line to the right of the marker, this deletes the green line to the right and it is replaced by a green line over and above the movie (i.e. to the left of the marker) I assume it is ok to leave this green line over the movie. At this stage I upload it, only to get a green screen again! It's the 'movie' (or is it non-movie?) called 'How to skid in Snow'. It's another masterpiece lost.

Thank you for your advice. I am not very computer literate, can you tell me how to download a video format converter? Where can I find one? Thanks again. Bill

johnebaker wrote on 2/6/2013, 5:41 PM

Hi Bill

I have just put a short video clip here which I exported using the settings I gave you in your previous post on this subject, and then used the Show & Discuss uploader

As you can see a video converter is not necessary.

Hi,

You're not alone - several of us have problems with this! Personally I don't think it worth the effort of jumping through the various magix hoops to do it sucessfully. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and there's no feedback to help you learn why. I prefer either YouTube or Dropbox.

For more discussion on this a few months ago see this thread:

http://www.magix.info/uk/help-uploading-videos-to-show-discuss.knowledge.811582.html

But if you followed those instructions from John then you should have succeeded. To complement those, here's my video tutorial covering the same ground.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/HowToUpload-1.mp4

(It's about 35 MB so will take a minute or so to download to your default download foder.)

However, my attempts to upload this very same tutorial to Show & Discuss failed!

I followed my own instructions (which I'm 99% sure are those I've used successfully before) and all attempts resulted in  a green video with audio only. After two attempts with MP4 I then tried with Windows Media WMV (1280x720). That succeeded but its quality was awful. I then restarted MEP and tried the MP4 again. The only difference this time was that I did not uncheck the 'Export as website' option. But it failed as before.

Either my instructions are wrong (which means I'm doing or setting something differently than I recall doing before) or the magix process is broken.

I'm looking forward to some feedback from others please, who have very recently succeeded in uploading an MP4!

Edit: Despite being unsure whether the 3 uploads in 24 hours restriction would apply (even though I'd deleted all 3 attempts) as a long shot I tried an MPG (Catooh HD 1920x1080i PAL). After over 30 minutes of wheel spinning I got:
A technical problem has occured. If this error continues, please contact our technical support at http://support.magix.net!

Wow! I see what you mean, I'm certainly not alone. At least, I'm in good company. I will certainly look at the advice areas you have given me but it seems to me that MAGIX should be sorting this problem out. I do appreciate your help and will keep on trying. Bill

It looks as if I have walked straight into a quagmire here with this uploading problem. I'm certainly not the first but it does surprise me that so many uploads appear successful.I cannot even download the instructional videos from Terrypin. Looking back a few months as advised, I am certainly not alone with this problem of uploading. I can see that some people have tried every format there is, without success. As I have said, I am not computer literate and it's all beyond me. I think I'll have to leave this aspect of Magix alone until it is resolved by them. The world has not really lost a couple of masterpieces - I was only saying that!  I'll concentrate on my other problems within MEP 2013 plus. I never dreamed that my Christmas present would occupy so much of my time. P.S. does anyone know how to delete my unsuccessful uploads? Thanks for all your help. Bill

terrypin wrote on 2/7/2013, 2:26 PM

Bill,

As I mentioned before in your thread Movie Templates http://www.magix.info/uk/movie-templates.knowledge.912184.html
you're not helping yourself by being so vague in your problem descriptions. Not many of us will want to spend time guessing exactly what you mean.

First, you've not said whether you were able to step through my video tutorial and whether it resolved your problem?

In your latest post, the only specific technical problem you've raised appears to be a new one, namely 'I cannot even download the instructional videos from Terrypin'. What exactly did you do and what happened at each step? I'm assuming you mean my tutorials in the Tutorial section? I had no problem a minute ago with the couple I tried. To repeat my earlier point, a screenshot or two would help when there's any ambiguity.

Terry,1) I could not play the video in show and discuss. It said it was uploading, please wait, but was still frozen after a considerable time. 2) When I first tried to download 'How to upload' from dropbox, I ended up with a blank screen. I have just tried again and it worked but it overfilled my screen and seemed to run through very quickly. From what I could glean from it, it appeared to be along the same lines as John's advice. It was however too fast and oversized on the screen for me to follow in detail. Sorry I can't be more specific with my problem descriptions. I do not know how to send a screenshot and even if I did, I cannot think of a screen which would detail my problem specifically. All I know is that I follow the advice given in detail but end up with a green screen on 'Show and Discuss'. I do begin to wonder if this is something to do with my internet (aol), or perhaps something is preset somewhere to prevent uploading. Bill

terrypin wrote on 2/7/2013, 4:21 PM

Bill,

1. That must be some MAGIX glitch, as I deleted all my upload attempts of that file (including the WMV that did play OK, because of its low quality).

2. Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Blank screen? Overfilled screen? Too fast? You've not said what player(s) you ued to play it. Can you play other MP4 videos?

To attach a screenshot use the Image icon above (next to Smilie icon).

Hi Bill

How big is the file you are trying to upload? - both in terms of minutes and the actual file size?

Have you tried uploading since I posted my example?

There was some site maintenance being carried while I was posting a couple of hours before the example video - I had problems with images in the posts - but that is a seperate issue.

John

Hi williamandrews06

Here are comments from people, and therefore prefer the video format WMV I use and never had a problem

williamandrews06 wrote on 2/8/2013, 12:50 PM

Ernest, thank you for your advice but I tried to upload in WMV and it failed again - another green screen - audio only.

John, the file is only 45 seconds long and in Mpeg4 it showed 24.9 MB. In WMV it showed 42MB. I have not yet tried again to upload it in Mp4, if I'm not careful I'll be filling up 'show and discuss' with green screens. Watch out for another one when I try in Mp4!

Terry, by blank screen I mean all white, nothing on it.By 'overfilled screen' I mean that the image was too large for my screen - words and image extendeded outside each side of the screen so that I could not read or see them properly. By 'too fast' I mean that the tutorial played through so quickly that I could not keep up with it in trying to understand it, given the overfilled screen. I am not sure which player I used to play it, I simply clicked on it to play it. I do not have any other Mp4 files to play for comparison.

I do appreciate everyone's help, further advice is more than welcome. I might direct the problem to Magix themselves but I can see it is not a new problem to them. Bill

Well,in that case I'm not surprised you're having problems!

Do you not have Windows Media Player? Or just drag the file onto the MEP timeline of a new project and try playing it there.

Search your HD for *.mp4  - I'm sure you must have a few. If not, google and download a few. Until you have a reliable way of viewing your videos you're seriously handicapped.

Ernest, thank you very much. It looks as if I have finally uploaded my video by converting it into WMV format as you suggested. When I first looked at the result it was a green screen again but when I looked again about two hours later, there was the video! Thanks for your comment about the video, I hope you liked the dog skid in the snow on her second attempt. I very much appreciate everyone's help, I now have to work on my next masterpiece (I only say that because I know you like a joke) Bill

video was great and your dog is well-trained

I am writing to more people about the format, so depending on what you need to build much I can write English

I can not write in English, because I can not write google bad translation Czech language

sorry friend : writes that what I write something else  Thank you for your understanding

williamandrews06 wrote on 2/8/2013, 5:23 PM

Terry, it looks as though I do have Windows media player and this is where I am able to view your tutorial but only with the limitations I described. When I play my Mp4 video on the timeline it plays perfectly. My next question was going to be whether the setup on the timeline was of any consequence before converting the video to Mp4 or any other format. I wondered if it mattered whether the audio and video should be on separate tracks or whether it mattered if the timeline was affected by the group or ungroup objects configuration. Also I wondered about whether the 'object' should be on 'all tracks' or 'one track'. I have been trying to upload with the video in blue on track one and the audio in green on track two. However, you might see in my text to Ernest that I have managed to resolve the uploading problem by converting to WMV.  Thanks again for your help, I am learning a great deal from all the advice given here. Bill.

terrypin wrote on 2/9/2013, 5:40 AM

Bill,

It sounds like your WMP settings are wrongly configured. That's why I suggested locating or downloading more MP4 (and other format) files that you can experiment with until you're comfortable with the basic stuff.

You can also view my tutorial on YouTube at

But it remains to be seen why I still cannot successfully upload it to Show & Discuss myself!

Meanwhile I'm happy to see you got yours uploaded in WMV format, well done. And my regards to the clever Poppy!

@John: Was your test uploaded to Show & Discuss with MEP 2013 Premium (12.0.2.2)?

I've now tried about a dozen times unsuccessfully. I then loaded MEP MX Premium and all tests so far have all been successful.

As far as I can tell I've matched Program settings like GPU acceleration, Display mode, etc, but all fail in 2013.

Anyone else (apart from Bill) tried?

Bill

Shoudn't make any difference.

--------------------

Using MEP MX Premium I had no problem uploading. So you have a choice of 3 ways to view my tutorial:

1. The Dropbox download

2. YouTube

3. Show & Discuss.

However, I now don't think it will tell you anything you don't already know. I'm beginning to suspect that it's an MEP 2013 issue as you see from my earlier post. Although it's puzzling that John succeeded, presumably using 2013. Hope to get confirmation from others.

Did you make progress with WMP?

Hi Terry

For some reason I did not get notification of the post !!

I created the movie in MEP2013 exported as per my instructions to Bill in this post - then used the Show & Discuss forum uploader - the Upload Videos button top right..

MEP played no part in the upload.
