Upgrading to New PC - Can I Use the Latest Movie Edit Pro Version?

Basheer wrote on 9/4/2023, 4:33 AM

I purchased MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Premium Version 19 (2020). MAGIX sent me the installation file and serial number. Then I received two free upgrades to 2021 or 2022; the app upgraded itself without requiring a new installation file.

Now I've purchased a new PC. Can I install the new (2021 or 2022) directly? Essentially, I need to use the latest version that I'm eligible for with the license I purchased in 2020. I'm a very light, occasional user for my personal requirements.

My magix.com account or the welcome email I received, I only have access to the MEP 2020 installation files. How can I download the newer version of MEP? And can I activate it using my serial number for MEP 19 (2020)?

@Basheer

Yes, you should be able to download MEP 2020, and it should be at the latest patch level. Go to your Magix account, find your products and there should be a link to MEP 2020 (it may be called "Movie Edit Pro Premium" as it was part of the continuous licence scheme of that time).

If you had it installed on two computers, you can deregister it on one machine, in your account, freeing up a licence.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Sorry for the confusion. I've clarified the question; please read it again. What I mean is, I received two free upgrades to the 2021 or 2022 version on my older PC. However, from my magix.com account or the welcome email I received, I only have access to the MEP 2020 installation files. How can I download the newer version of MEP? And can I activate it using the serial number for MEP 19 (2020)?

@Basheer

Unfortunately, I fear you will NOT be able to repeat those upgrade steps, from 2020 to 2022, sorry!

In fact, because you did not buy either of those upgrades, apparently, I strongly suspect you actually did not have MEP Premium 2022 but rather the basic version of MEP 2022 with the features (add-ons etc.) that came with Premium 2020. Currently, unless you purchase the subscription version of the program (now called Move Studio) you will receive any updates ONLY to the version you bought and no upgrades to later versions, unless you choose to pay for each upgrade as it is released.

What you can do is use your 2020 serial key as evidence that you are entitled to purchase the latest version (Movie Studio 2024) at the "upgrade" price.
