Hi,

I have Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022 but I can't find out what the upgrade(s) from this version is/are. Is it Movie Studio?

Thanks.

@Joe-Berg

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Movie Studio is a "rebadged" version of Movie Edit Pro (the whole product line is now to be known as Movie Studio) so is not an upgrade.

Video Pro X is the only "upgrade" to Movie Edit Pro.

Just a quick one, I'd like to uninstall Movie Edit Pro now that I have the new  Movie Studio 2022 Suite, will that cause any known issues, can it be done safely?

@Joe-Berg

Hi Joe.

Normally a new install removes an older version so how old is the older version?

There may be shared dlls that if removed may possibly cause trouble but I'm not overly certain about that.

Also since the programs' rebranding and amalgamation of the two products I'm not sure how true my previous statement is as it could be classified as two different programs. You may also find older projects don't open fully or correctly in the new software due to plugins that could have been replaced in the newer version. My advice for now if you have the space would be to leave it alone until you are happy with the new version.

Thanks, the previous version is Movie Edit Pro Premium Version 21.0.1.111 (UDP3)

I did think uninstalling the 'old' version possibly would have some issues so I'll take your advice and eave it alone for now.
If I opened all my projects with the new version and saved those, would that make it safer to do the uninstall?

Hi Joe.

Basically it's the same program. I'm wondering why the install didn't remove the old copy.

Is Movie Studio on build 21.0.2.130?

If so that is what Movie Edit Pro should have been on if you were still within the one year of support.

If I were you I would raise a support ticket with Magix and ask. Either that or uninstall both and then reinstall Movie Studio.

Saving old projects to the new program will make little difference.

Ray.

Hi

. . . .  I'm wondering why the install didn't remove the old copy. . . .

AFAIK only MEP new versions replace MEP, therefore MMS would not remove MEP, however the next version of MMS will replace MMS.

. . . . There may be shared dlls that if removed may possibly cause trouble but I'm not overly certain about that . . . .

That should not happen, when another program is installed and it shares a DLL with other programs, Windows maintains a 'counter' of how many programs and which are associated with the DLL and when this gets down to 1 then it will be uninstalled by the last program left that uses it is uninstalled.

I would not uninstall MEP until you have thoroughly checked out MMS with the MEP projects and resaved them.

Thanks everyone, all's good now, I uninstalled both programs then re-installed MSS which opens my existing projects just fine.
And Ray, what I paid for was the renewal of my update/support plan which enabled me to access MSS as an update, not upgrade.

All the best from Oz,

Hi

. . . . All the music I purchased in the previous version is GONE. I'd like to get all that back. . . . .

Where did you purchase the music from, and were they audio files or music templates for the Soundtrack Maker feature of the program?

If audio files, did you keep backup copies?

If purchased through the in program Store then login to Producer Planet with the same email/password they may be available in your account there.

Hi,

Further to what John EB mentioned, if you purchased the music from the Store in Movie Edit Pro/Magix Movie Studio, then they will all show up under the Audio tab. You may have to wait up to a minute for them to appear.

However, if the new version is registered under a different account (email address), then the music won't be found as it's registered to the account used in the previous version.
