Upgrade from MMM16 TO MMM Premium

cansino wrote on 3/3/2017, 8:10 AM

Hi

I am currently in the decision process of deciding if it is a good idea to upgrade from MMM 16 TO MMM Premium.

Will I lose my current set of MMM VST or will the upgrade include those available in MMM16 plus offering more?

I have read the info but its not entirely clear as to what the benefits are. In short does anyone think it is a good move?

  Would welcome some reasonable advice

  Thanks

Hi,

It depends on what you are doing or want to do with everything and what you need. Do you use Soundpool loops a lot? Need more? Do you want many more instruments?

You say MMM 16 - do mean 2016 and not 16, and the Basic version, Live or Premium?

No, you don't lose any VST's or VSTi's. I presume that you mean the instruments. If you have the basic version of MMM, you do not have the option to add third party VST's, only with Live and Premium.

You should review the comparison chart on the Magix.com site. However, there are editing features available in Live and Premium that are not in the basic version, I believe.

If you do not use Soundpools very much but make your own music with instruments, you want more instruments, and you need more editing features of a DAW, then you may want to look at Magix Samplitude Music Studio. You get more instruments and the editing features are much more developed than MMM. However, you don't get more Soundpools. The Soundpools work the same in Music Studio as in MMM and you can always buy more.

Best way would be to download the trial versions, try them out and then decide.

Good luck.

hi browj2

Thanks for your reply and insight.

I am currently running the MMM 2016 version 20.0.5.74 (UPG 3). I don't tend to use and rely on the soundpool loops and prefer to work in the midi editor to arrange and write my own beats and melodies although I like the option of having soundpool access for inspiration and ideas.

I have a older version of samplitude music studio but when I upgraded from mmm2013 it became a little bit more complicated and I discovered a few more VSTI in the 2016 version of MMM which I like very much.

If I upgrade to MMM premium I have an offer of getting the Magix Samplitude Studio in the bundle. Will I need to uninstall The MMM 2016 before I download and install the new software? and do I have to run the Magix Samplitude  software separately when I need to write?

Hope this makes sense

Many Thanks

Hi Cansino,

No need to uninstall any previous version. The current version might propose uninstalling the previous version and you can accept if you want. Any instruments and Soundpools previously installed will remain and will work in the new version.

Samplitude Music Studio has additional features that may help you while composing, like notation and tempo and signature adjustments, and possibly more MIDI editing features (I haven't done a comparison).

You can compose in either program as you wish. You can always start in MMM and then continue or complete it by opening the MMM file in Samplitude Music Studio, but I don't think that the inverse is true, i.e. don't start in Samplitude and then try to open the VIP with MusicMaker.

I use MusicMaker for simple things, especially when using Soundpools, and Samplitude for anything complex. I just scored a video with Soundpools and songs and there are tempo changes. For this, I used Samplitude.

Hi browj2

Thanks again for the info.

I have decided to go ahead and upgrade to the premium version of MMM with the Samplitude studio in the bundle.

One thing I have noticed is that the Century Guitar VSTI which states is included in the instrument panel needs some activation code to use. Although the interface is present  cant work this one out?

I do understand that to increase the library there are further payments involved but this actually states that it is included?

Just wondering if you have any knowledge on this subject

 Thanks

Hi, Cansino,

The instrument panel contains installed and available for purchase (from Magix) instruments. Century guitars is an old one that does not come with the versions that you purchased. There are probably others, like the Sax and a Bass, both which I purchased separately. If you don't need them, don't buy them.

You may want to look for third party instruments as well or instead. Look at the DSK site. There are many free instruments and for 25$ you can download and install everything, I believe. I installed some of these under the VSTplugins folder,

C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins\Third Party\DSK

and did a VST scan and they showed up on the list. There is a trick to also get the nice image to show up. I am planning a tutorial on this.

There are many other third party instruments available that you might like. Since I have Samplitude Pro X3 Suite, I have the full 70GB of instruments for Independence, and I really don't need any more, well, I wanted bagpipes.

As well, you may want to look at other VST effects, although you have a good lot with Samplitude Music Studio. I have some from Melda, in particular, MDynamicEQ and MAutoDynamicEQ. They have a bunch that are free that you can try out. Sign up for their emails. Melda has frequent 50% off sales, so don't buy anything until you see it on sale. You can't just download one effect, you get the whole suite and then during installation, you select just the ones that you want.

Check to see if Samplitude Music Studio is 64 bit; I think it is, whereas MusicMaker is 32bit. Anything that you download as addons should have both 32 and 64 bit versions so that you can use them with both programs.

Hi browj2

I have looked at some of the VST instruments on the DSK site and downloaded a guitar VST

The problem is how do I get this into the VST plugin folder and useable ?

I have read the help context on the Samplitude Studio Programme but it does not seem very clear to me,

if you could help me with a more simple description would very much appreciate the help.

   Thanks

Hi Paul,

I downloaded the DSK guitars, 64 bit, which is a zipped file. I unzipped it (dragged the main folder) to the location as shown below:

Then I opened Samplitude. Since I already have the Third Party folder scanned for VST's the guitar appeared on the list of instruments under New instrument, Third Party, DSK Dynamic Guitars. If you have not put the folder into the VST path, go into Program settings (shortcut P), Effects, VST/Rewire, and navigate to the VST plug-in folder.

For MusicMaker, use the 32 bit download and put it under C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins\Third Party.
