Unable to pull new website template from "New Content Catalog".

Chris-Johnson wrote on 4/29/2021, 11:17 PM

Hey everyone. I am unable to pull  new website template from "New Content Catalog", although I purchased the web designer (Xara Designer Pro X 16.3.0.57723) and have been using for 2 years. When I try to pull a new website, I am being redirected to Xara's page in an attempt to force me to upgrade (spend money unnecessarily).

How can Magix / Xara justify forcing customers to upgrade, when they have already purchased a product and have been using for a long time?

I literally am unable to use a product that I paid for

Anyone else experiencing the same?

@Chris-Johnson

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Although I don't have Xara DPX I understand the online catalogue is available for the duration of the user's Update Service - initially 12 months from date of original purchase - and that, unless you fully download all of it within that period you lose access to it if you choose to not continue the annual Update Service payment.

Hey, thanks for the feedback guys. The update that is referred to has only happened recently. I purchased the product in 2019 and used without this new update issue since then. Actually, it's not an update, I literally am redirected to the following page, which is for a newer product: https://www.magix.com/index.php?id=23817&L=52&C=220#

In my opinion, this is not an update, they are trying to force customers to purchase a new product under the guise of an update. There is no actual renewal, it's a new product purchase.

@Chris-Johnson

Whether this is an update or a new product does not alter the fact that if you did not choose to renew your Update Service when it expired and had not previously downloaded ALL the online catalogue content, you now cannot access it, sorry.

If you really do want access to it you need to buy the upgrade and thus renew your Update Service. There is no other way.

Just for clarification: the 12 months Update Service covers all updates to the version you bought along with any upgrades to new versions which are released within that time frame.

Thank you emmrecs. I originally purchased the product, downloaded the content pack and anything else. This is the 3rd website product that i purchased from Magix and never received a prompt to renew anything. What's the point of purchasing a product, if a company can force you to purchase another, whenever they decide?

It doesn't make sense. The entire process is not legitimate. It's a borderline scam. I have consistently used the product that I paid for in 2019 and only recently received this message. It's not a yearly renewal if I have used for 2 years. What's worse, I paid for a product that cannot use at all until I pay for a illegitimate "renewal". I have never experienced this scenario with any company, ever.

See the Xara Update Service terms and conditions here - read the entire document, as there is a lot of detail there.

Hi,

...and never received a prompt to renew anything.

I disagree. More than a month before your Update Service expired, every time that you opened Xara there would have been a message indicating that your Update Service would expire soon. Once it had expired, you get this each and every time that you open the program:

The program continues to work. If you had downloaded all of the content from the On-line Catalogue (an online service) before expiry, then you would have everything that was available at that time under Local Designs Gallery. It was your responsibility to do this.

As stated before, I installed the entire content pack. What more was I supposed to install / download?

This never happened with the other 2 versions that I installed. I always had access to the catalog.

If I received an alert, i likely assumed that it was optional. There is no way that i would have assumed that I would not be able to pull website templates within a product that i bought specifically for website design.

That's like purchasing Microsoft and not having access to use it, after the license expires. There are limitations once it expires, but you can still create additional documents. They don't deny the ability to use the product after the license expires, once you paid for the software.

Hi

. . . .  I installed the entire content pack. What more was I supposed to install / download?. . . .

What was in the 'Content pack'?

In computer terminology, Content pack has a different meaning to Online Catalogue.

. . . . If I received an alert, i likely assumed that it was optional.  . . . . after the license expires. There are limitations once it expires, but you can still create additional documents. . . .

The program licence does not expire the program continues to work and current website(s) you have created can continue to be edited however you cannot change the template, or add new widgets or features.

The Update Service is a separate item and it is clearly stated in the Update Service T & C, that once the Update Service expires you lose access to further program updates and access to the Online Catalogue, .

In addition the message that pops up close to the expiry of the service clearly states you will lose access to updates or online services - there is nothing 'optional' about it.

. . . . That's like purchasing Microsoft and not having access to use it . . . .

What other companies do is irrelevant - Magix opted not to go down the line like Microsoft (some software and variants) and Adobe where once the subscription ends , the program is disabled immediately or over a set time period.

@Chris-Johnson If you still have your old XDP version on your computer you need to redownload the installer from your user account and install the new version (currently version 18). Just updating it will not work. You can decide if your old version stays on your computer. You can then redownload the Content Pack, Panorama Studio and the design gallery from inside the new version. Of course this will only work if your Update Service is still vaild.

Hi

If this relates to your other topic regarding downloading the 'design content', please do not duplicate post.

Give more details in that topic of which program you are using, what you did to get or receive the update code and if your Update Service is up to date or has expired.

Your comment here will be hidden.
