After downloading the setup file and running it, it fails to download the media. I am trying to install it on my new laptop surface laptop windows 11. After trying few days with no luck I tried to install on my previous laptop surface book pro windows 10 same issue. Note I had it installed on my old laptop before I formatted it. I called my son to try on his desktop pc and same issue. Feels like magix is forcing me to buy a new one

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

It would help if you specified exactly which program and version you are trying to install.

Older versions of the program may not be Windows 11 compatible or you may just need to turn off Windows Firewall and your antivirus program while you download the program. They sometimes block certain types of files from downloading.

Hi.

If you mean Magic Video Pro X2, as far as I'm aware it will only run on Windows XP, Windows Vista or Win 7.

Even then you may run into problems as I'm not sure you will be able to enable the additional codecs any more.

That may have been written before 10 was even invented. I interpret those type of requirements as meaning "it will not run on Windows versions earlier than XP". Plenty of earlier programs run on Win 10, including Magix programs.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi,

I take it as meaning Movie Edit Pro 2. Did that even exist?

The oldest that I have is Video Deluxe (VdL) from 2001 (as shown on the CD) that I registered in 2003, then a big jump to MEP 17 (not 2017). Interestingly, on the CD from 2001, it shows that it's for MS Windows. I guess Bill didn't foresee the future versions.

From my old MEP website:

Video Deluxe:     The name of the German and original English version, came out around 2002.

MEP 2004 and 2005:   Program renamed to Movie Edit Pro and released to the worldwide market in 2003. My first version, after reading a one-column article in an English video magazine. I've been hooked ever since. I had a brief dalliance with Vegas but came scooting back to MEP in quick time. Premiere Pro was so slow on my then-new computer I gave up on the first day.

MEP 10 (Red Box):    Released into the US market, many users have lots of problems with memory and burning errors to name a couple. I had no problem with it using PAL and DV-AVI as source material. Steer clear of this version.

MEP 10 PLUS (Blue box):    Released into the UK market, very nice program. Big improvement on MEP 10, 2005, 2004. A couple of major bugs which have workarounds (eg DV-AVI export). Handles most MPEGs and VOBs OK.

MEP 11 (red box):    Released into the USA market. Redesigned interface with new colours. Seems to be OK. Has more features than MEP 10 PLUS.

MEP 11 PLUS (blue box):    Released into the UK market, has the Keyframe Animator and other features which MEP 11 doesn't have. Overall a nice program (apart from the yukky interface colours), it includes the new Main Concept MPEG encoder (previously, MEP used the Ligos encoder). It also loads more slowly than MEP 10 used to; it is more resource-hungry.

MEP 12 (red box):    Released to the US market in early 2007.

MEP 14 and 14 Plus:    Released to the market in Feb 2008.

Magix Video Pro X: Released to the USA and UK markets in November 2008, it has more features than Movie Edit Pro but is more expensive. Details here.

MEP 15 and 15 Plus: Released to the market at the end of March 2009. Feature lists here.

MEP 16 and 16 Plus: Released at the end of Feb 2010. Feature lists here. Differences between MEP 15 + and MEP 16 + here.

MEP 17 and 17 Plus: Released September 2010.

Hi Al.

I did say may. The program may also not be VPX 2

Looking through the manual for VPX 2 there is no mention of whether it is 64 or 32 bit. If 32 bit there could be memory address problems above 4GB. The export codecs supplied then may not be available now to the program as they appear to be under licence from Dolby Labs. VPX2 apparently used ASIO as well and could be used with synthesizers and other MIDI instruments to create sound tracks but needs an additional sound card supporting MIDI and one assumes MIDI OX as well as the supplied Magix Low Latency ASIO driver for routing MIDI. The program may also limited to using16 bit audio as it states 24 bit audio may not work. It also had a Real Media export function as well as animated giff files.

I'll admit to being very surprised as the whole program looks way cooler than the present version and may explain why the Magix site has no mention of it in their VPX version history. It could even be MIDI synchronized to an external audio editor of your choice.

The supplied activation code only enables the program to be activated for 30 days at which point an account has to be created with Magix and registered for continued use.

I can't find any mention of the main concept encoder so is it prior to its introduction?

Ray.

Hi,

We need to know the version. When you start the program, you should see the year on the splash screen. Also, go to Help, About and you'll see the version, probably 19.x.x.x. You will likely have trouble getting it to run on Windows 11. The current version is 2022, 21.x.x.x.

After downloading the setup file and running it, it fails to download the media.

By this, I understand that the program works and that you are trying to download the Additional Content, is that correct? Show us a screen shot and describe exactly what happens and at what point.

A screen shot needs to be an image file, you cannot copy/paste an image here. Upload the image using the upload button at the top of the message.
