Unable to import track from a latest CD

Xenofex2 wrote on 4/20/2017, 5:51 AM

Something I have done before, although it may have been just in ACL, I am trying to import a particular track from one of my latest CD's. Ticked the track and clicked on the yellow button to import and get the message 'Error occurred while opening the Wave file'.

Just in case it is something now added to new CD's, I then checked with some other of my CD's but get the same message. I then looked at my program, 'Audio & Music Lab Premium', checked on updates and there are none, I have the latest.

Am using Windows 10 in a new desktop computer (June 2016)..Can't think of anywhere else to look. Would really appreciate some help please.

George, one possible reason for this is if AML (and, presumably, your Windows Audio or soundcard if you have one) is set to 48kHz, when CD Audio is 44.1kHz. I suspect AML may be unable to handle audio which is not at the same sample rate as itself.

Sorry, now I can understand what you are saying but not how to resolve, if I can.

Don't know if it is relevant or makes any difference, but I have just recorded a track direct from the internet without any problems.

George, I don't have AML so I can't guide you specifically with that, sorry!

However, some precise detail about your computer and its components would be invaluable, especially info on your soundcard (if you have one) or whether you use the on-board sound.

Jeff,

Just looked at the Control Panel and cannot find any specific information for Sound. I did though whilst putting on a CD as if I wanted to record, to see if anything changed but there was nothing I could see. I did though do a screenshot, attached, of the Sound display seen..

Without changing anything, I have both recorded audio from web radio and from the internet via Audio & Music Lab plus have watched Sky & BT without sound problems.

Now it could be this new computer but think I recall when I was using ACL that a box that one used to see had detailed info on the sound rate, although to me it did not make sense, but then wonder whether a more back to basics approach might help with the purchase of the latest ACL?

Hi George

. . . . 'Error occurred while opening the Wave file'. . . . .

Check that the file path where the audio file is to be saved is correct.

Also check out this comment - it may be related to your problem if you are using Windows 10.

Wow! I cannot believe it. Something as simple as 'file path'.

Obviously it never occurred to me. Obviously wrongly, I had assumed that I would import and then find the file path to save. But no, as you suggest John, changed the file path as to where I ultimately want to save the recordings and hey presto the audio was imported. Funny that when I attempted to record from the internet there had been no such problem but guess an old file path link was still in place.

Many thanks Jeff and John once again.

John,

I should have read George's original post more carefully! Because I use audio software which includes a facility to Extract from CD and opens the resulting wave file directly in its workscreen, I suppose I assumed AML would do the same!

You learn something new every day.

George, I'm glad you were able to resolve the problem.
