Unable to complete installation without getting error message.

zim-o wrote on 3/23/2021, 12:08 PM

. I uninstalled complete prior Video Sound lab aborted installation. I did cold boot. I turned off UAC on Windows 10 PC, I deactivated NAV . I did admin install of Video Sound lab. I got same error message. Only outstanding possible issue is a Windows 10 updated that wont complete.

@zim-o

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

What is the exact wording of the error message?

Are you saying you know there is a Windows Update that won't complete or is that just an idea you have? Have you checked in Settings>Update & Security>Windows Updates whether there is an update pending?

You say you uninstalled complete prior VSCL installation. How, exactly, did you do this? It is possible that some element(s) of the original installation were not removed.

1. Windows update is having trouble completing an update all this time I have been trying to install Magix Video Sound Lab

2. The Magix Video Sound Lab goes through installation almost to completion when I get the same error message that there is some problem and could not finish the installation and gives me three options. 1/ Abort 2. Ignore 3. (I am not sure what 3rd options was). I have tried all three options and none were helpful.

Please answer ALL the questions in my previous post! The more information you can supply the more likely that one of we fellow-users might be able to help.

1 See Above

2. See Above

3 Yes I did Windows "complete" uninstall for prior installations before attempting reinstallations. I then did a cold boot. and Proceeded to stop UAC and NAV before attempting a complete reinstall. Whether there were components of prior install still around, I do not know how to determine this. Anyway I would get the same error message as before. I guess you want the extra EXACT text of error message. So I will have to go through all this again and copy/paste or write down the text of this error message. Which may take even more time doing this installation. I will get back to you when I have the complete text, hopefully sooner than later. ....

1.. See Above

2. See Above.

3. See Above.

4. Error Message exact text:

"Could not write value videoexportmaker to key. /Products/79A8DCO8AD3505E459C6358BE800F5F5\features .

Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact support personnel."

Three options 1. Abort 2. Retry 3. Ignore.

After last message I clicked the Ignore option. Everything seemed to install. I then tried launching program again. It opened up but would not display correctly. An error message came up, but left so quickly , I am unable to read this. I tried Windows compatibility wizard and was not successful with this.

@zim-o

Thanks you for the additional info.

First, I think you need to resolve exactly why a Windows Update cannot be installed. This Microsoft page would be a good place to start, I think. This must be a priority for you. Until this is resolved I suspect the VSCL install error may remain.

Then, because the built-in installer does not always remove everything from the previous install, you could then download, install and run the free version of Revo Uninstaller and have it ensure that all traces of VSCL are removed. Alternatively this M$ Utility should enable the same things to happen.

Only when you are sure that Windows Update is functioning again and that every previous trace of VSCL has been removed should you reboot your computer and retry the installation.

@zim-o

In addition to @emmrecs comment.

. . . . Could not write value videoexportmaker to key . . . .

Indicates that either the correct permissions to write the key to the registry are not set, or NAV is not fully turned off.

Most AV have more than one feature to turn off eg Ransomware protection, Real time scanning, Protected folder etc.
