Twitch exported video goes blank after few seconds

Ari-Liekola wrote on 1/8/2023, 6:03 AM

Hi,

I downloaded few clips from Twitch streams and when I import them into Magix Movie Editor, audio works and few first seconds of video shows, but then video goes blank. This happens with all clips and different Movie Editor versions. ATM I am using Movie Studio 2023 Suite.

It seems that this problem is only with Twitch created clips and not Twitch created Hilights. Hilights seems to work fine.

@Ari-Liekola

Do you have a link to a Twitch we could check out?

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

If these are game pay video clips from twitch then the chances are they are variable frame rate files with large sudden frame rate changes between fast action and static sections.

So there are nothing that can be done? I tried program that re-writes those files and it worked, but that is an another step to the process.

Hi

. . . . Twitch created clips and not Twitch created Hilights . . . .

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of each type of clips causing the issue, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

In the video section of the analysis if you see this line:

Framerate mode: Variable

Then the video needs converting to Constant frame rate with a video converter such as Handbrake, or AVIDemux.

If the video is not variable frame rate then post the 2 analyses in a comment for us to look at at.

I have two exports from Twitch. I was wrong when I said that clips does not work but highlights does. It seems that only unaltered stream VOD works

First clip works fine (unaltered VOD), second shows few second video and then goes black (higlighted VOD)

Hi.

@Marc-Goder is correct. you seem to have posted the information in the wrong order and yes you would have to convert such files to a constant frame rate and preferably all files within a project should use the same frame rate.

My order was correct. First file (Scum uudella serverillä.mp4) worked and I edidted and exported it. The second one (scum2.mp4) didn't work more than few seconds.

Anyhow, so it seem that I do have to convert. Any suggestions for AVIDemux convert settings?

Still a WIP but you'll get the ghist of it...

Using Mediainfo, determine desired frame rate

Video Output>Filters

Transform, DC on Resample FPS

Mode:Custom

New Frame Rate – as per Mediainfo

Interpolation ??

OK, Close

Output format MP4 Muxer

Save As

I forgot to answer this. Yes. Transforming seems to work. It will take long time, but atleast Movie Editor now shows video and plays audio. I just have to make shorter hilights. Editing i.e. 5 hour stream from one file is tedous job.

Thanks for the help.
