trouble recording records on Audio & Music Lab version 22,2,0,53

housearrest10 wrote on 5/23/2018, 10:26 AM

I am receiving the message:  The wave shape device 'Line In' (high definition Audio) cannot be opened for recording.  Reason:  undefined external error.  Have tried everything I know to fix this.  Re-boot etc. plugging and unplugging pre amp into the sound card and unplugging and plugging in phone jacks to pre amp.  I have a DAK 2800-PC pre amp.  Recently received an update from windows 10 on 9 May.  Haven't been able to record since.   I have Audio & Music Lab version 22,2,0,53 currently installed but did not order a back up disc.  I am running Windows 10 Professional (x64) Version 1803 (build 17134.48).

Assuming you are not using a third party audio card, this is the one piece of information missing, you are using the onboard Realtek ALC889 8-Channel High Definition Audio chipset.

Check the following:

  1. The microphone in Windows Settings, Privacy, Microphone is not turned off - the Allow apps to access your microphone needs to be turned On, however the individual apps permissions can be turned off, if you do not want them to access the microphone - for some reason this setting can affect recording from any audio card input.

  2. The Realtek HDA driver has not been replaced with a later version - mine is currently at 6.0.1.7535 driver date16/06/2015.

  3. The Line in is enabled in the Recording devices in Windows audio settings, if not enable it.

I am showing and AMD High Definition audio device

On my computer I have a similar audio object listed, but it is "part" of my AMD Radeon graphics card. So, does your computer have anything similar?

Win 10 Pro 64 bit, Intel i7 Quad Core 6700K @ 4GHz, 32 GB RAM, NVidia GTX 1660TI and Intel HD530 Graphics, MOTU 8-Pre f/w audio interface, VPX, MEP, Music Maker, PhotoStory Deluxe, Photo Manager Deluxe, Xara 3D Maker 7, Samplitude Pro X7 Suite, Reaper, Adobe Audition 3, CS6 and CC, 2 x Canon HG10 cameras, 1 x Canon EOS 600D, Akaso EK7000 Pro Action Cam

No. It doesn't list it as part of any card.

Sorry, I don't think I phrased my question especially well! 😢😢

What I meant was, do you have a Radeon graphics card on your computer?

Win 10 Pro 64 bit, Intel i7 Quad Core 6700K @ 4GHz, 32 GB RAM, NVidia GTX 1660TI and Intel HD530 Graphics, MOTU 8-Pre f/w audio interface, VPX, MEP, Music Maker, PhotoStory Deluxe, Photo Manager Deluxe, Xara 3D Maker 7, Samplitude Pro X7 Suite, Reaper, Adobe Audition 3, CS6 and CC, 2 x Canon HG10 cameras, 1 x Canon EOS 600D, Akaso EK7000 Pro Action Cam

. . . . I am showing and AMD High Definition audio device . . . . .

The AMD high definition audio device is for sending sound over HDMI and Display Port connections, it is not for recording from. If you are connecting to your monitor via HDMI and the audio is coming from or passing through the monitors, then the Realtek may be disabled

I previously posted your motherboard has onboard Realtek HDA audio and it is this that you should be using for recording, it should appear in AML as an audio input device.

If not check in:

  1. the AMD control panel that the Realtek has not been disabled
  2. the Windows Sound settings that the Realtek is enabled
  3. you may also need to check in the BIOS to ensure it has not been disabled.
