Travel Maps Problems - Turning off and on, Multiple photos, others

Travel Maps 1.0.1.332

TM has replaced Travel Route Animation in VPX, MEP and PhotoStory and works well for the most part. However, there are several problems that I have identified. See the video.

The main problem is not being able to turn off the location points and have them stay off when new points are added.

Other than what is in the video, I have a problem on my Surface Pro with a screen resolution of 2736x1824. TM will not go to full screen. I played around with Windows DPI settings and almost got there, but should not have to do this. Here is the default full screen:

Has anyone encountered other problems with the latest version?

Hi John

I can replicate the waypoint and image issues using your methods - same version .332

However I have never used your method of hiding waypoints or adding multiple images to a waypoint - see clip below for my method.

In the clip you will also notice that Travel Maps does not go full screen - 1920 x 1080 default DPI.

Hi John EB,

Thanks for looking at this.

I think that I found the bug with the photos. I was using Shift+select to select several photos. TM does not like this. Ctrl+select had no impact. So, the solution is to just select the photos by clicking on them. Still, holding down shift should not cause a problem requiring a restart.

The main purpose for turning off locations is to be able to follow a route, like a highway. Every time that you click on a point, the icon and text show up. This makes it very hard to follow the route because the next point is probably hidden by the icon or the text. Thus, turning off the default for viewing locations and icons should keep them off for all additional points. In order to put the next point, I have to turn off the text/icon of the previous point. Of course, the problems that I showed still remain for turning them back on with the method that I used.

I just found another minor problem. Play the route with an avatar turned off for the first one or two points, on for the others. In my case, the motorcycle shows up the first go round. Let the route keep playing and the motorcycle will probably not show up. Stop, restart playback, same thing, but for me, the motorcycle showed up the first two cycles, not the third.

Oh, oh! My Surface Pro just updated to W1903 and my desktop is threatening to do the same.

@johnebaker

I'll modify my video to indicate that the photo problem occurs only after trying to use Shift+select. This is the normal way to select multiple sequential images from a folder, so I would have expected it to work.

I just remembered one other problem that I wanted to post that has been raised by others. This would please the Flat Earth Society. Try a route from Los Angeles to Australia (westward). The route automatically goes east, as the earth must be flat 😁. The route will not cross the International Date Line.

Hi John

. . . . Try a route from Los Angeles to Australia (westward). The route automatically goes east . . . .

Still not fixed from the old TRA - it used to do the same eg London to Wellington via Montreal.

@johnebaker

I don't seem to have suffered any damage from the update to W10 1903.

Travel Maps - additional comments:

  1. I vaguely recall that with one of the patches, the route distance showed up. Maybe I was imagining this, but I recall moving the toolbar to see the distance in the upper left corner. In any event, there is no distance as there was in TRA for a drawn path.
  2. No distance for a GPS path, even though the distance is in the GPS file.
  3. Same applies to scale - TRA could show the scale of the map, TM no.

Here are a couple of additional problems that one user mentioned. I did some testing and added to it. All points have been added to the VPX11 bug list.

l. Load a map/Save Zoom incorrect – load a map, create route, zoom in on the map, save the project, reopen the project and the zoom will no longer be there and the route will be incorrect.

m. Load a map – create a first point, change the settings, icon, icon size, duration of stop = 0, for the complete route. Add location by clicking on the map and it does not take on the attributes set for the complete route. Save the project, reopen TM and the project, and the icons will have changed, but the duration of stop will be back to 0.5s.
