Hi,

It seems to me that your PNG is not transparent. What program did you use to make it? What does it look like in various image viewers or editors?

Also, can you provide full details of how you're adding and editing the button in MEP 11. That's a very old version but I still have it around somewhere.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the response. I created the .png in Photoshop Elements 8, and it does show up as being transparent elsewhere. Here's how it looks in PSE:

And here it is inserted into a random photo:

I've added it to MEP on the Edit page in the Burning section. I'm using a short video as the menu background. What I did was just delete all but one of the buttons that showed up on the default template, then reposition it and choose the .png as the button image in the Design Button --> Edit dialogue. Here's a screenshot of where I'm at with it:

I've also tried substituting in other .png's that also show up elsewhere with transparent background, and I've ended up with the same result as with the leaf. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks again.

Hi

ADFAICS to get a transparent background to the image you need to save it as a BMP file with an Alpha channel.

This can be done in Photoshop however I do not have Photoshop elements so cannot test it.

To do this in Photoshop see this article here, hopefully Elements is similar.

Hi,

I just tried this with a png that I created in Xara and exported, true color&alpha, transparent. It was the first frame in the movie and was thus used for the button. In the Burn menu, to get the background black, I clicked on my image, which is a button, Design button, Edit, and changed the graphinc from a frame in the movie to Use other graphic. Otherwise, I had a white background.

Worked for me.

The image below shows the same png on the timeline. Even though the background here was black because the leaf is transparent, the menu button background was white. Thus I had to replace it with the original in the button.

Wait, I just went back and tried again, and this time the button used the first frame of the video properly and the background was black.

If you can't get it to work, maybe this is a particularity with the old MEP.

Try it with my leaf on Dropbox.

I appreciate and have tried all of your suggestions, but none of them have worked. I'm starting to think this is more trouble than it's worth.

Haven't had a chance to look at this more closely yet. Meanwhile I note from a close examination of your screenshot that you're using MEP MX, not MEP 11. So that's  one factor out of the mix!

OK, John, put me out of my misery: what's the D in that acronym please?

g_man973,

Thanks for the additional detail.

I want to make sure we're singing from the same hymn sheet. When you said "I've added it to MEP on the Edit page in the Burning section," do you really mean you're editing an existing button, not adding a new one?

Also, I'm not  clear why you had to "delete all but one of the buttons that showed up on the default template."  Mine has only the one button on the main menu.

Did you use Design button > in an external editor?

Note: I dislike Photo Designer and never personally use it. But if instead I assign my own choice, PaintShop Pro 8, the edits are not recognised by MEP. I think that John EB has a less ancient version of PaintShop Pro which does support MEP.

Anyway, back to your specific problem. Like John CB I can't replicate it. Here's my own example:

If none of the above helps then maybe you could try adding a new button. Doesn't sound like you need it, but FWIW here's my very basic tutorial on that:

Hi,

As you can see, we don't give up that easily. Maybe you could post your leaf on Dropbox so that we can download it and try it.

Coming up for three weeks since we took the time to help you. Lost interest? Or solved the problem and can't be bothered to tell us?
