transitions not working

Mary-Stutzman wrote on 10/20/2022, 7:25 PM

I am using Movie Studio 2023 and I cannot get most of the transitions to work. I know how to apply them, but when I hit play, there is no transition at all. Just a black screen between pictures. I saw other posts with the same issues. I already tried changing all 3 settings under "Device Options" to CPU as other posts suggested. That did not fix it. These are the specs for my computer. Could someone take a look at this and tell me if there is a fix for this?

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G6950@ 2.80GHz

8 GB Ram 2.79 GHz

64-bit operating system

Windows 10 Home vers. 21H2

Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics

Hi,

Did you try various combinations under Device Options? There is usually no need to restart the program, just check what happens on the timeline. Others may comment on your hardware.

Please indicate the patch of MS2023 - it's under Help, About.

Please select 1 transition that doesn't work, tell us which one, and give us a screen shot showing the entire interface with the playback marker in the middle of the transition, and the transition template showing and highlighted in the Media Pool so that we can try it.

EDIT: One other thing, do test with two video clips and two photos to see if the transition works with the photos. Give us the transition durations.

Hi

The Intel G6950 graphics only supports DirectX 9, Movie Studio requires DirectX 11 or better, therefore the 3 Device options in the program settings should be set to CPU as shown below

@browj2 has commented 'Others may comment on your hardware' - the computer is very under powered for working with Movie Studio 2023 and may struggle with smooth playback of the timeline, very long export times depending on the video resolution and video encoding format(s) you are working with, ie with resolutions of 1920 x 1080 or greater, and/or the encoding format is HEVC.

There are two program settings that can help, though the performance increase may be slight, turn on:

  • Automatically create proxy files in the Project settings

  • The Lightning symbol bottom right of the preview monitor - it will be blue when on.
