Transitions not working

rwright88 wrote on 8/8/2022, 5:56 PM

I just got Movie Studio platinum 2022. Do the transitions have to be activated? They don't work. The title templates and all the others work fine. When hovering the cursor over the other templates they show a down arrow, a play button and a heart. The transitions only show the play button and the heart, but not the down arrow. And when I click the play button they don't play. It's probably something simple but I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance.

@rwright88 Hi, drag one clip over the other on the timeline to create a simple crossfade, then you can drag any transition onto that crossfade, (right click on the crossfade gives you options)

rwright88 wrote on 8/8/2022, 9:11 PM

Thanks I tried that, the fade worked but the transitions didn't work. I tried resetting everything to default. Didn't work. The transitions are basically dead. Is there any way to re-install just the transitions template? I dread having to try to contact Magix support.

@rwright88

Hi,

To make it simple, can you give us one specific transition to try out?

You may want to watch this tutorial on Transition Templates to make sure that you are applying them correctly and you can select one that I show that does not work for you.

@rwright88 You were doing this?

can you go to your icon at the top, click it - My Profile, & fill in your Signature with your Magix version, Windows version & system specs, full name of CPU, GPU, & amount of RAM etc. this will then show at the bottom of the comments (see mine & other peoples at the bottom of comments) thanks. Right click on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen - Taskmanager - Performance tab will show these if you can't find them.

@Former user @rwright88

right click on the crossfade gives you options

Left click will do it too; on the orange and blue Transition box.

Click on the blue/orange box lying over the fade will give you access to the transitions.

Click (when the pointer is a straight finger, not a bent finger) on the box:

Will give you this:

Tick the check box to access all the transitions.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I have discovered that the transitions in Movements Basic, Shapes and Objects Basic and Effect Transitions Basic all work fine. The transitions in 3D Basic, 3D Series Basic, 3D Morph Basic, 3D Titles Basic and Transitions Basic do not work at all. I also have on the same computer Video Pro X10 which has the same transitions as Movie Studio 2022 and they all work fine. I used to have Movie Edit Pro 2017 on this same computer and all the transitions worked fine. Gid : Yes I was doing exactly what you show in the video. When I add one of the non-working transitions the video plays as if there was no transition at all. I get the same results when I right click and choose the transitions from the options menu. (I promise I will fill out the information in my profile but it will be tomorrow.) Thank you all for your help!

@AAProds Sorry i've used MEP since 2004, i know the timeline pretty much off by heart when using it but been using Vegas mainly recently & forget when typing to help others, yep click the little blue n orange box, I only ever add a simple 12frame crossfade & apply it to all using that second pic you showed,

Verified here as well with my 2022 version. They work OK in MEP 2021. Another bug.

Try using the transitions we're talking about: eg 3D Basic, "Change".

Your Radial Bottom Right (I think it is, it's very small text) works here. The 3D basic ones don't.

Fair enough. MEP won't accept my (onboard only) graphics card in the Device Options dropdowns; I can only set the CPU. Perhaps that is the reason.

Hi

In the Program setting, Device options tab try changing the Import, Processing and Export options to CPU.

The issue is most likely due to:

  1. The graphics card/integrated GPU (GPU/iGPU) drivers are not up to date.

  2. The GPU/iGPU does not support some of the functionality required for the transitions that are not working

    In order to use a GPU/iGPU, Movie Studio 2022 has minimum requirement for the GPU/iGPU to support at least Direct X11, preferably Direct X12 - some functionalities of Infusion 3 engine only run with Direct X12 so you may find other issues with some features.

I would suggest you put your computer specification in your Profile Signature - see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full.

Hi,

I checked in MEP2022 Premium and the 3D and Transitions Basic work fine for me.

Did you try them on just photos? If not, do so. There may be some kind of problem with your video clips, or the Device Options.
