Hi Terry

I rarely use the handles to drag transitions.

I use the Trimmer - Single object to do this (normally Shift N) but I have remapped my keyboard shortcut so that the Shift N and N keys functions are transposed.

Hi John,

I've never used that before as it always looked over-complicated and I didn't understand several parts of the PDF manual explanation. (Starting with the very name: why 'Edit Trimmer'?) Nor could I see at a glance the distinction between that and the 'Object Trimmer'.

However, trying it again I see that it's straightforward. I repeatedly click the '+' button as shown. But why can I not specify precisely 1s? It jumps from 24 frames to 01:01.

Hi Terry

Works OK here

However - can you check out that yours will allow you to extend the crossover period - mine appears not to !

Hi John,

My inability to set 1:00 was because I was using the wrong arrows. Those I showed in my original screenshot (and again below) are for symmetrical changes:

That's why it stepped up from 00:24 to 01:01.

To change the transition by 00:01 I now see I should use the bottom arrows.

However - can you check out that yours will allow you to extend the crossover period - mine appears not to !

Not sure I've understood you there. Isn't that what the above does?

Or do you mean these, which don't do anything here. But what should they do?! And how exactly does object 'content' differ from 'object'?

That seems the major bug, but the following add to the confusion too:

A final minor point: the pop-up for the Crossfade arrows, top right, is confusing.

What it says: Moves the transition. Use this button to scroll through the material of the left and right objects.

What I think it means: Moves the transition to the left or right, without changing its duration.

To be frank, I can't see any compelling reason to use this poorly designed and carelessly documented dialog. What do you find are its advantages?

Hi Terry

I meant using the buttons I highlighted in my last post - however you findings explain why it did not work trying to extend the crossfade.

Hi Terry

I think you have put Magix response in the wrong topic ....... should be in "Title queries".

Hi Terry

I think the Trimmers would be useful if, as you said, they were not so darned confusing. The preview pictures are too small as well.

"Or do you mean these, which don't do anything here. But what should they do?! And how exactly does object 'content' differ from 'object'? "

This is not a bug. "Object" means the clip trimmed or not at the length it is sitting in the timeline at. "Content is the specific frames contained in that clip which could be scrolled about the timeline timestamp relative to their original timestamp from the camera. In other words - the adjacent clips would need to have been trimmed at both sides of the cut prior to applying the crossfade to allow you to move the content back and forward within the (stationary) clip boundaries using those buttons.

I have not worked out yet how you can simply extend the duration of the crossfade (with untrimmed clips) as you would if you just dragged the right clip over the left one? Those bottom arrows in your 3rd screen shot seem to do nothing although the number in the spin box changes when you use the "Changes the end of the left object" arrows.
