Just to clarify my example (I'm not sure I was that clear....): I'd like to use a plugin as a comfort reverb when tracking a vocal, but only be actually recording the naked vocal (i.e. without the reverb). Is this possible? If so, how?

@Brackets Just disable the reverb plugin on your recorded track.

Or insert a bus-track with reverb filter, then lead the output of your recording/midi track or what else to that reverb bus.

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated!

I tried the two methods above and neither make any difference, in that I can only hear the mic and not the reverb.

I feel like there’s something fundamental that I’m doing wrong that would justifiably warrant a facepalm from everyone here. But I’ll leave my dignity at the door and continue!

My setup consists of a newly purchased 2nd hand focusrite 18i20 (that I’m still getting my head around!). I have a mic going straight into one of its channels.

I add an audio track in Acid Pro, add a reverb plugin to the track, and set the track to the appropriate 18i20 channel input.

The result is; I can hear the mic (and am able to record it) but I cannot hear the reverb plugin in real time as I’m tracking. And that’s what I’m after.

Apologies for being the noob in the room.

@Brackets You have selected the Focusrite USB ASIO driver in the audio settings of ACID and connected your headphones to the headphone output or the speakers to the speaker output of the Focusrite interface?

Yep. I have the Focusrite USB ASIO driver selected in ACID, and I'm using one of the headphone outs on the interface for monitoring.

@Brackets Have you checked if you are monitoring the output signal from your computer and not the input signal from your microphone before it goes into the computer? I don't know how the 18i20 works, but I would guess you can configure it.

You need to use "input bus" and put reverb there. Than on audio track you can set to record clean track without reverb or input bus with reverb. You can find info on how to do it in acid manuał.

That's it! You're a genius! Heartache over!

Thanks to everyone for their time and suggestions. Very much appreciated.
