Torn Paper Effect

nirvanray wrote on 8/25/2013, 3:08 AM

Hello friends,
I want to ask is there any way how I can create a torn paper effect? I mean we see several movie posters that come with a torn paper / page effect?
What I understand is that I download a torn paper from the internet and in the MAGIX I compose the text on it accordingly on another image of a note pad with preferred font and colours.
Below I have also downloaded the stuff but now how do I tear the pad paper.
Thanks for the help in advance?

If you just want to make torn paper effect on image it is not difficult. You can refer one of my design. (for reference)

If you know designing it depends which software do you use. The main part in designing is the torn out paper and the shadow. It is not difficult. If you are interested send me some details which software you got and if you know designing it will be helpful to guide you.

Hi Anirban,

Probably the fastest way to create a torn paper effect is to buy yourself a black or green poster board, pin it to a wall, get some paper and tear it the way you want it to look, put your camera on a tripod and take a shot of the torn paper.  Then chroma key out the poster board.  Old fashioned way to do it but it works.

ps green is probably better than black if you are going to use white paper because if you use more than one layer of paper and it casts a shadow, the black when you chroma key it may produce some odd effects with the shadow.

@ nihon94,
Thanks nihon94 for your kind response. It will be very noble from you to show me how the effect was done. Yes I know very little of designing and use MAGIX for every design aspect. I use Magix Photo Designer 7.
Thanks.

@George,
That’s indeed a very smart and an easy way. Thanks George.

Hi,

Paul Holtz show on YouTube a tutorial How to create a burning paper and add paper effet. The tutorial is designed for Pinnacle Studio but burning is done manually and effet is added in Pinnacle Studio. You can use the same in Magix.

In Magix Photo Designer 7 do you got Filters for various effects?

First draw a rectangle for background. Give a color as you like then use Filter to roughen the edge or use tools to cut the edges. When you are done you have to use opacity for shadow.

I know just by reading text will be difficult to understand therefore, please use the link to watch a tutorial just for reference. After that if you need any help you could send message.

Sample from my design.

Hey Anirban,

So once again you gave me a challenge with this idea.  So I decided to see if I could recreate it only using movie edit pro.  Here is what I came up with.

The only thing I used for the torn paper was some old photograph torn up put on a cork board with thumb tacks with an orange file folder as my chroma key.  The orange did not work as well as bright green would have but here was the original set up that I took a photograph of.

for this I only used size and position and mirror to do the effect.  I had the photo on 4 tracks and manipulated each one to get to the final.

George, you really have trained me to be really street smart. Wow what an idea. I really respect you for the easy and FAST remedies rather than complicated ones.
Well I understand that you did tear a picture and then placed an orange background but then I lost it…I mean the upto taking snap was good but then Size/Position and Mirror….sorry confused…
Can be kind enough to just explain and show maybe by some pictures.
Regards.

Hey Anirban,

I am putting together a video tutorial going through the steps I used to get this done.  I have most of the screen capture done, I just need to do the narration which should take a couple of hours.  Check back a little later and it should be finished.

Hi Anirban,

Here is how I created it. Plus some commentary at the end on how I could have done it better.
