Topo maps broken in latest TRAVEL MAPS update

Matt-Braun wrote on 4/30/2022, 5:02 PM

Hi,

I've just updated Travel Maps to the latest version and now topographic maps don't work any more. The resolution is completely unusable and some areas just don't load at all. Looks like an error fetching the maps?

Any help or patch would be much appreciated.

In the meantime, is there a way to install an older version of Travel Maps?

Kind regards,
Matt

Hi

What is the version number of Travel Maps as found under About this program at the bottom of the Maps screen?

Thank you for the reply. It's 1.0.1.475

@Matt-Braun

The latest version of Travel Maps, on my computer at least, is 1.2.1.464 so it rather looks as if yours is somewhat out of date! I realise you wrote you just updated the software so I am more than a little puzzled why your version is clearly now "old".

One thought: since this software is normally an add-on to one of the Magix "video" products, which of these do you have and what exact version? Again you can check under Help>About.

Yeah, I just got an update popup the other day. It would still be nice if it weren't broken.

This "came with" Video Pro X 18.0.1.95.

Thanks, Matt

@Matt-Braun

So, assuming the update popup was to download that latest version of Travel Maps, have you done so? Or was it for VPX?

For me, running that latest version, it isn't broken. Though I am running VPX version 19.0.2.155 (aka VPX 13).

Hi

Topographic, and all other maps, work fine for me on Travel Maps 1.0.1.475.

Check that you Antivirus program is not blocking the program or the Realtime protection is interfering with the download.

I have the same problem as Matt Braun. Most of the maps now wont download since I updated Movie Edit Pro Premium. I actually have two versions (2019 & 2022) on two separate laptops, both are up to date in the mother Movie Edit program, but thats when the problems began: both have the same problem: when I try to download the latest Travel Maps update, the download begins, then hangs forever at about 10% downloaded, which to me seems to indicate its not anti-virus stopping it. I have even tried to let it download overnight, but it still just hangs at 10%. Is there any other way to download it, or maybe I can retreat to an older version of Movie Edit Pro Premium.

@Glen

Hi,

Travel Maps is a standalone program and the only thing that it has to do with MEP is that it comes with it.

Please, always indicate the version of Travel Maps.

@johnebaker

Hi John EB,

On my desktop:

TM 1.2.1.462

This morning, ESRI maps Standard, Topographic and Geographic are not working properly; ESRI Satellite works as does OpenStreetMap Standard. The map opens to the default in Germany. Zoom out and you'll get this:

Search for London or almost any other place and you'll get this:

On my laptop:

TM 1.0.1.475

Same problem.

browj2, I know its a standalone app, and it fails in standalone mode as well. I have two different versions of travel maps on two separate laptops: versions 1.0.1.385 and 1.2.1.462. In the settings both are checked "use Beta patches". The reason I mentioned the main Movie Edit ap was to show my downloading works, and that anti-virus isnt to blame. This morning I had high hopes it would work as Travel Maps asked for an update, said it was 108mbytes, and started downloading quickly. But, then, when it got to about 75% downloaded, it hangs again. Yet I can download bigger files from other sites. So, Im stuck trying to download version .475 on both my laptops, not possible ATM. BTW, the standard ESRI map option still work ok, its all the other ones that dont, on both my laptops (with the .462 version for maps at least). So from my point of view its all related to a TravelMaps download problem - both of the mapsets and updates. BTW, you have to move the map away from Germany when it opens to see the faults. Im trying to download maps for Chile.

I indicated which maps do not work for me. Is this the same for you? Did you try ESRI satellite?

Yes the ONLY map that works for me is the one in the top box, the ESRI standard map. That is the case on both my laptops which each have different but outdated versions of Travel Maps. All other maps dont download. To me it seems the problem is Travel Maps somehow not allowing downloads of either mapsets or updates.

browj2 wrote on 5/10/2022, 11:41 AM

@Glen

Something is wrong with ESRI, not Travel Maps. It's possible that ESRI changed something causing the link to work improperly.

Do not reinstall Travel Maps. Either the map source will be fixed or Magix will have to release a patch.

You may want to raise a ticket with Magix showing them the problem.

Now the Satellite map is giving me problems, but the Geographic map works.

@johnebaker @emmrecs

Hi,

Do you see the same problem?

I will raise a ticket, but if the problem is with ESRI it might take a bit longer than if its just with Magix.

"Do you see the same problem?"

no, I see some low res maps, and some high res but incomplete maps, in all except the standard mapset. And I am guessing the ones I am seeing might be in cache memory and previously downloaded.

Hi

In version 1.2.1.465 - the maps sort of work as you both describe - this looks like a request for map data bug. The ESRI Standard and Topographic maps are partially there, however placed 'off screen' zooming and repositioning gets it as far as is shown below with parts missing

Once as above zooming in behaves as normal up to a point where the map is suddenly off screen again - the maps are also low resolution

ESRI Satellite and Geographic maps do not work at all

Some progress... This morning I was able to download the update number 1.0.1.475. But... the mapsets still dont download. I opened a ticket with Magix a couple of days ago and am still waiting to hear back.

Glen wrote on 5/22/2022, 4:36 PM

Recent update to version 1.0.1.476 seems to have fixed the problem, at least on my MEP 19 laptop. So at least I could finish this video!

Thank you all for your input.

As Glen said, the update to 1.0.1.476 seems to have fixed the problem. I'm very glad someone worked on that.

Hi, having not used the travel maps for a while I see I have the same problem described in this thread. My Travel map version is 1.2.1.464. Can anyone please tell me how I can look for and download the latest version above (1.0.1.476) that cures the problem.

I have not currently renewed the update service (although getting reminders) so wonder if that means rather than being able to get the latest version, I may have to request support for a patch to fix the issue?

Thanks Peter D

Not sure if I should have added I run this with Photostory deluxe version 21.0.2.120

@PeterD58

Hi

The update notification should appear when you start up Travel Maps, however IIRC in 1.2.1.464 this was broken.

I would suggest you raise a Support ticket asking for the download link - see this Support article on how to raise a ticket.
