top track is yellow and sound track is orange. How do you move one track. Single track and ripple do not work

When I click the top track with mouse on one track and the ripple on single track and select group I cant select a track without the sound track turning orange and the top track turning yellow so I cant slide part of the track along. I would be grateful for any help,
