TO ANYONE THINKING ABOUT USING MAGIX MOVIE EDIT PRO

smithstonia wrote on 7/27/2011, 10:11 AM

I have used some awful video editing software in the past but this one sure takes the cake. Most people steal there software however I would prefer to purchase it legitimately even against the advice of others. The main reason I would prefer to actually buy it is so I can get support if I need it. Magix charges for phone support. I feel this is very unfair to the consumer. If you call the sales team some of those people who would answer also do customer support but they are not aloud to help you over the phone.

Also there are alot of what I would consider glitches in there system. it creates back up files every time you turn around and these hidden backup files will load onto the disk and render it impossible to burn. If I am happy with the project and click save isn't that all the back up one would ever need? Have spent 2 months working on one project and it has been a miserable experience indeed.

If you just want to fancy up a little home video for fun MEP might be for you but anyone who is serious about videography should not even consider this product.  Of coarse any cheap editing software would not be as good as Adobe Premier or final cut pro but if you are on a budget and want to get something accomplished I suggest ULead studios they are simple and cheap but it works so well and is far better than MEP even though it dose not have some of the fancy transactions Magix offers the transactions they do haved work smoothly unlike MEP transactions that seem so abrupt.

I realise if you are reading this forum you have most likley already purchased it but if I could save one person the time I  have lost and the head aches I have endured then that is the least I could do.

As you correctly suggest, anyone reading your post is likely to already be a user of MEP or VPX.  Clearly, you are entitled to your views, but the experience of a large number of us is that MEP and/or VPX do exactly what we want and do it pretty well.

I saw your other post about problems with DVD Burning and saw that John Baker (a very experienced user) had replied, asking you a number of very pertinent questions about your system, your version of MEP and about exactly what you were trying to do.  It is a shame you did not see fit to reply to his questions; perhaps if you had done so you would have been helped to resolve the problems you are obviously having, rather than starting this thread to "rant" about the program.  Your comment about back up files being "loaded onto the disk" strongly suggests you are failing to make the correct settings in the DVD Burn Screen.  Also the initial creation or otherwise of those back up files is entirely at the discretion of the user.

To suggest that anyone using MAGIX video editing products is doing it "for fun" is, quite frankly, insulting to a number of us who use the various programs for serious, professional work.

 Just my opinion...

MEP is the most stable and responsive video editor I have ever used. I rate it above other video editors that I have used.

I used Adobe Premiere Elements through version 9. Feature set cannot compare to MEP..Premiere Elements is a drag on system resources. On some systems is is so slow it is un-usable.

I have used Sony Vegas version 9. This is stable but feature set cannot compare to MEP. And there are only a handful of timeline tracks

I am extremely please dwith MEP and I will no longer be using the other video editors I have purchased.

Hi Everyone

I think we can let this one die now - the poster never came back with their problem therefore we can assume they were not interested in getting help.
