Title examples

"What I'm doing is making titles and background effects for future use."

Had lots of fun doing the same over the years!

I've smashed together a few examples, no special order. If any of them are of particular interest, and their creation not obvious, I'll try to dig out some details. There are naturally lots which also used my image editor (PaintShop Pro), and a couple which used other external tools. But I've excluded all those made with Bluff Titler, which account for many of my more recent titles.

Hi John,

Thanks. Re BT, obviously OT here but if you want I’ll make a similar example set soon and email you its link. However I doubt if you’d see anything you don’t already know. And if I recall correctly I think you also have one or more of the paid BT template packages, which I don’t.

Hi Terry,

For BT, if you haven't already made up a video, no need to bother. Not really OT as it gives people ideas for titling.

BTW, see my message about the free Boris Titler and other stuff. There are a hundred or so presets/templates that come with Boris. For the audio stuff, there are even various short audio clips for transitions.

Back to the garden.

Hi Terry.

I like your taste in music 😄.

I liked the dancing letters but they went so fast I felt I couldn't read everything that came up.

Is the East Grinstead a clue as to your locality? 😉

Was that a Russ Conway track? Haven't heard that in years although I own a copy.

Still, All good stuff.

Hi Ray,

Thanks.

The ‘dancing letters’, one of my favourites at the time, used two other tools as well as MEP, including a fair bit of time building the anagrams. Deliberately fast so that no one attempted to make much sense of them!

Yes to East Grinstead, and also to Russ Conway ('Roulette').

Good point. And on reflection it might be fun to see if any of BT’s effects could be done in MEP.

I'll upload some examples within the next few days.

I'm not at my PC and I’m darned if I can find the site’s search tool in Safari on my iPhone. So have not yet located the post you mentioned (with that off-putting name!).

BTW, anyone here ever had a useful reply from this recently introduced MAGIX ‘digital assistant’?

Hi Terry,

Here is the link to the Boris+ thread.

MAGIX ‘digital assistant’ - you mean that help thing at the lower right of this forum? It doesn't know the meaning of life. It does know that the next version of Video Pro X was released in May......of 2018.

Montreal is a COVID epicentre it seems. Thankfully, we live in the suburbs in an independent town, but still on the island. Bernadette takes me for a COVID walk every day, during which we avoid close contact with every one, including other dogs. Nathalie does the shopping wearing her mask and rubber gloves. It has been a cool spring with some snow a few days ago. The Queen's Birthday is celebrated on Monday, also know as planting day when there should be no more risk of frost. Then, everyone will be wanting to get out and do distance socializing and we'll have to adjust the time of our walkies.

Hi Terry.

Ha! not so far away then.

Thanks for the track name. I have so much music I can't even remember what I have half the time. Probably redundant in this digital age but there you go. I also recognised the west coast guitar track. American player that I also can't think of off the top of my head, I have that as well but can't think. As for the Jazz tracks. You got me thinking really hard. Over the years I have built up a huge collection but don't play much of it.

One of my faults is I'm not a multitasker. If I listen to music I can't do anything else. I have to really listen. One reason I only listen to radio 4 in the car. 🙂

Not sure about this Boris thing. Some of the offer seems time limited and not sure what will or what won't work in MEP.

As for lockdown. I typed a whole rant I've just deleted before pushing the comment button.

Hi Ray,

The expression is "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."

Only the FilmImpact Essentials Collection (transitions) is good for one year, and is only for Adobe Premier Pro. We aren't using Premier Pro, at least I am not.

Everything else is yours. Boris Tittle Studio is a 199$ value - for free.

The 2 audio plugins from Accusonus are free - no expiry date.

The royalty free music and sound FX obviously don't expire - you have the files.

The only expiry date is when this deal will no longer be available - May 18. Don't delay.

Hi Ray,

No it was the track at 2:58. From The Smoker You Get album I think.

No seegar for any of those guesses. It took an hour's forensic work as it turned out to be a snatched recording of an old BBC radio theme.

https://www.radiorewind.co.uk/radio1/theme_tunes.htm?cmtx_sort=4

The artist was Steely Dan and the track was from the album 'Pretzel Logic', and titled 'East St Louis Toodle-Oo'.

As for your non sequitur, the only track I have by Janis Ian is 'At Seventeen', and yes, I do rather like it on playing just now.

We've strayed a way OT; I blame you.

Thanks Terry.

That's been driving me mad. Thank you.

I have it on their 'Decade of Steely Dan' album. I have the Aja album as well. At least the genre was roughly correct 😇

You should look Janis Ian's channel up on YouTube. I think you would like 'Tattoo' or 'Murdering Stravinsky'. At 17 was her debut track. Wide range of musical styles.

The quality of her mixes is amazing.

Getting back to titling. I downloaded the Boris Titling effects and have been trying to get my head around the program. I've been able to change text from the templates but not apply them to a clip. Barely understand the interface. Rendering of just the animation in the titles is taking ages. I may have messed up. I wonder if there is a reset button 😟.

Here's the video showing some Bluff Titler examples. At the start are those I made as part of our response to José Robles' post, over two years ago in the thread:
https://www.magix.info/us/forum/logo-animations-with-mep-2017-are-there-any--1202512/#ca1375572

Hopefully the total of 30 or so might stimulate titling ideas.

The almost randomly chosen sound clips were added hastily to minimise boredom. As all my videos are for family and friends I don't think the occasional fragment of possibly copyrighted material will offend.

Did you notice that a couple of the titles that Terry did are similar to the Shining template that you mentioned in the thread on Boris. Everything that you see in Terry's titles can be modified, adjusted, added to, etc. in BluffTitler.

Hi Terry. Hi John.

For me Terry, you had quite a good hit rate of titles that I liked scoring a good 20%. 😁 That's a high score for me as I can look at thousands of such things and not like a single one. It's a reason I don't use library content that much. I find it quicker for me to start from scratch with an idea I probably have in my head already.

Having said that, it is difficult to see how well a set of titles fits into project without seeing the whole project and another consideration to take into account when trying to evaluate another's work. Not easy for me to do.

Sometimes, to my eye, some titles look dated in general. Look at any old TV or film titles or credits and you can often tell which era it comes from before you see any footage. Other Titles either just 'fit' or seem timeless. Some are just iconic and copied over and over by other productions until they diminish the impact of the original idea. Take the opening of the first Stars Wars film as an example. That blew me away visually just as much as that never ending Corellian corvette Tantive IV did as it slid away from me on the big screen.

I do admire your proliferation in this area though.

As to copyright.

As I see it.

It's doubtful in the case of your normal use of them that I would ever worry personally. They would be (I assume) of limited circulation.

For private viewing (Family or friends only)

Not on the internet for general public view. (except this instance on what could be described as a limited audience.)

You have no intention of making financial gain from them.

That where they are shown here they are in part for instructional purposes of projects carried out. (That's an odd one but I think applicable here).

Not for redistribution outside of the context of being here.

You have bought and own a legally purchased copy and it is still in your possession.

You couldn't put this on YouTube without a copyright notice slapped on you although you may not be asked to take it down or have it counted as a strike against you. Then again you might. YouTube and it's copyright procedure seems to be mainly in the hands of the large corporations and there is little anyone can do on appeal grounds. Far easier to comply with whatever it is they tell you to do.

This is becoming more of a problem in the States than here and so far the Supreme Courts are still debating various aspects of copyright as it could effect the sales of cars that now rely on software to run. Second hand books should be another problem but never has been in the UK for whatever reason I've never been able to figure out.

Some copyright law has been relaxed because of this but music can still be a sticky one. I'm not even sure if your licence for your Bluff Titler covers you, but again doubtful that anyone would take you to task for this in this instance.

I find it confusing at the best of times. I once got a copyright notice slapped on me for using a snippet of a hardly-known-now cover version of one of Arthur Askey's songs but get away with a lot use of Glenn Miller tune covers.

I have mixed feelings about how to go about making Titles. The same feeling that I have for Marks and Spencer clothing. Nothing intrinsically wrong with their wares, but the colour or style is just that bit off. I find what some people produce with additional packages a bit like that. So I find that very off-putting and instinctually rebel against their use in general. To use to give me an idea, maybe but for general use, not as much unless it can do more than I could currently do with what I already have. Even if my efforts are to no-one else's taste, they were done as far as possible by me.

From my personal Viewpoint, the stuff that doesn't date as much is simple and has the correct selection of font for the subject matter or has visual impact, and to have visual impact it has to be almost a one-off, never-seen-before-this usage.

This is why most high cost production work on their own fonts. For branding and association with the product. So James Bond, Terminator, Harry Potter, etc.

Now something I could design my own fonts with. That would be as great as it would be frustrating. 😆

Ray.

Hi Ray,

About copyright issues, I think that Terry was referring to the music, not the titles. The titles and title templates are royalty free, plus you make any adjustments that you want.

Hi John.

I was mainly referring to the music use John.

The licence agreement for Bluff Titler, I have not read, hence my one line comment on not knowing its status.

Hi Ray,

I'm glad you asked. I was using 14.0.0.0 but prompted by your post I've now updated to the latest version: 14.8.0.2.

Hi Terry.

I'm glad I reminded you but I was actually after which version of Bluff Titler you use as I notice there are three versions with varying degrees of what can be altered. Also a lot of add on packs. It seems it can get quite expensive depending on the level of control you want.

I've spent three days trying to get to grips with the Borris program and it is so frustrating using the key editor. Key frames are not taking, they are losing their size / position markers whenever I add a new one further along the timeline. I have managed to make some simple export templates but then finding them difficult to import into a new project. I am also finding the internal key editor of Borris a bit perplexing trying to alter existing timeline movement. Altering Fonts, the text, and adding textures I can do but not the movement regarding size and positioning. It's very frustrating as those things I can do within MEP easily.

I confess working with what is already supplied with MEP seems more reliable and less complicated to arrange at present.

Apart from 3D extrusions of the fonts and the ability to add textures, there is little more that I would want to have.

I don't know what resolutions you work at Terry but I'm also finding working at 4K or even 1080p, that having an extra program working within MEP is making smooth playback harder the more effects I add. I'm sure a lot of this is down to my graphics card and possibly ram speed, but again, it just makes things that bit harder to get done.

Ray.
