Questions on timeline view::
1. Colour changes from green to yellow - what does this signify?
2. How do I select multiple adjacent tracks to work on the same feature on these tracks?
Any advice appreciated

Any object on the timeline that is yellow is selected, in the case of a green object this is the default colour for an audio file not to be confused with the audio track attached to a video clip.

Do you mean actual tracks or objects on multiple tracks?
The former is not possible, for the latter:
Drag a marquee over the required objects if they are all adjacent to each other or select the objects using the standard Windows Alt ot Ctrl + mouse left click .

Thanks for your helpful and speedy response, it is particularly useful to know what is not possible to save much wasted time. Thanks for the tutorials - I have already viewed some of your tutorials and they were useful
One further question - transitions - I am fine with the video transition, but I assumed the audio track could easily be faded down and back up in unison? I cannot find such a function - is there one? The only method I have found is "Edit volume curve" which seems a complicated way of carrying out a simple process?

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums Mike.
There are probably too many different ways to control volume.
You can adjust the mixer in real time with the faders and record the movements by pressing the Auto button on each volume channel strip in the mixer as you play the compilation.
You can link each channel by holding down Ctrl while left clicking each selected channel strip with the mouse.
You can interdependently highlight a clip and drag the volume handle up and down to a new volume position or grab either end to fade in or out. It acts as a volume trim pot to set the overall volume level.
If you draw a curve, that is independent control from the mixer. Both will work together so be careful. The curves can be difficult to remove if you don't know how to once drawn. You will note the volume slider does not move.
Pan as well as volume and a couple of other bits in the mixer can be automated. It can get complicated so I would suggest sticking to one method at a time to start with or you may end up with volumes louder or softer than you wanted and not know how to correct it.

Sorry, I may have misread your post. Do you mean cross fades between two clips?
For me, I think I would use two different tracks and where they overlay each other adjust them independently.
I always separate my audio from the video anyway. You may also want to look up about J cuts as well in the manual if you want the sound from one clip to last longer or shorter and bleed into another clip or have the sound from the next clip start before the visual.
John CB has covered this in two tutorials entitled everything audio, I think.

The audio objects/volumes are automatically faded in unison when you either push the two videos together, or you set up the transition/fade using the Effects>Templates:
If you want to drop the audio before or after the actual transition, display the volume curve and set up two nodes (put the mouse pointer on the curve so that the pointer turns black, then left-click), then drag them left and right as desired.
In the above example, I have set up a Transition; you can see the audio fades out and in with the video by default. But I want the second audio to start after the transition has finished, so I've set the second audio to zero until after the transition is finished ie until it gets to the first node, then it increases to the normal volume by the second node. Note that the second node controls the volume for the remainder of that object; likewise, the first node of the left hand object controls the volume of the object before it starts going down between the first node and the second.
To cancel all those green volume lines and other audio stuff, right-click on the audio>Audio Effects>Reset Audio Effects.

One slight complication you may find is when adding a Fade In at the start of the movie (or a Found Out at the end of the movie. I can only assume it's a bug as previous versions didn't have this problem.
It's nothing to be concerned about but I feel you should be aware.
When you click on "fade in" at the movie start, the video track fades but NOT the audio; this has to be faded manually (if required). It's the same with fade out at the end.

That is true but most of them have been or will be fitted with CCS systems (Carbon Capture Systems) while that would be too expensive for domestic fireplaces. The CCS rollout should be complete by 2030. (You have to love government schedule optimism). In fact I think we just opened up a new or reopened an existing coal mine. Go figure.
We are even exporting the CCS tech to Australia. 🤣👍

I can confirm that MEP 2021 does indeed fade in and out both video and audio. When you think about it, it would be pretty dumb not to! Bug in 2023.

PS: I would not suggest using that term in the presence of the aforementioned generator, lest real "thunder" strikes!
I believe Andy is right; in previous versions "Fade in/out" by dragging that line did affect both audio and video. (I've used that feature many times.) Not so now! No idea why that was changed. The effect of the change is that any fade/out now requires two actions from the user whereas before it was one.

Ray, I only noticed because I've been buying / using MEP (and now MS) for knocking on 3 decades.
I don't think it's worth raising a ticket though. I currently have 2 tickets raised about 3 weeks ago and the only replies I've had are the automated ones, although, interestingly, I've had emails from Magix asking me to rate the Support service as I've recently been in touch. 🤔

If it is now broken it was broken bore MMS 2023. My demo video was just done in MEP 2022.
There are a lot of things that are just different now from previous versions apart from missing or de-funked plugins.
Importing an old project from MEP 2018, movement created effects using the old size position do no not show up in the key frame editor (at least on my system) but are still working but with no way to alter them. It's like there are two layers of code trying to achieve the same outcome. I had the same problem with tracked objects with older projects imported into MEP 2022. Maybe that was a consequence of Direct X combining 2D and 3D processing?
I'm convinced there may be many more anomalies that exist that won't be found before the next release of the software. Especially as some of the program is now using some of the features of the newer Intel graphics drivers which seem to be buggy if you are following the development of the Arc drivers which seem to be combined with the newer internal Intel Xe GPUs.
DCH graphics driver support is now dead with only critical updates being applied, so how long will it be before Magix drops Intel DCH graphics support?

It stands a very good chance that I'm talking (writing) complete nonsense here but while DCH drivers do appear to be "now dead", they have been replaced by Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - WHQL - Windows drivers https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/726609/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-whql-windows.html
I've used these since before Christmas and I think that now the Intel GPU I have is actually better for screen recording than my Nvidia 2060; admittedly for anything else it is a little inferior.

That is completely the case from what I am reading from various reports and the reason nvidia for one are not likely to keep producing lower end graphics cards in future as they stated the same thing.
Which is why I'm wondering when the DCH drivers will be dropped in the recommended Magix specs as their test rigs that are quoted on the website are using at least 11th gen Intel CPUs.
