The program will not close

tony_woolfson wrote on 10/20/2016, 4:47 AM

Since Microsoft have done their most recent "update", Magix Music Maker 2016  Live will not close, and I have to use the Task Manager.

I have tried running as Admin and changing the compatibility settings to Windows 7, but this still happens.

Running Windows 10 on a Desktop. Version of Magix 22.0.5.74 (UDP3).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi

When you try to close Music Maker (MMM) check that there is not a save dialog, that is waiting for a response from you, hiding behind the program windows.  This usually happens if you click again on the program window or double clicked, the X to close - the main window coming to the front before the dialog has had time to open, or you have an unfinished edit waiting for completion.

You may need to use Alt+Tab to cycle through the window panes that are open.

Thank you John for your rapid response.

Tried that - no open dialog window.

I tried editing something, sving the file and then tried to close again.

Same problem I'm afraid.

Any further thoughts?

Hi

Carry out the Windows system check steps 3 - 11 in this procedure then try running the installer again and select the Repair option when offered.

If that fails then re-install using the full procedure linked to.

Hi

As (bad) luck would have it my MMM 2016 has developed the same fault .

It appears to have occurred after opening a project which was created in MMM 2017 and failed to open, however it would open in MMM 2016.

The issue is caused by Magix Ofa Helper module not being able to perform its function(?) or shut down with increased CPU activity by this module (30+%)

Shutting down the process for the Helper allows MMM 2016 to close giving the save dialog if required.

Other programs such as MMM 2017, Movie Edit Pro which also use this module shut down OK.

Now need to fix the problem

At least it wasn't something I was doing!

The program is perfectly usable in the meantime.

Looking forward to the solution in due course. Thanks for your attention and work.

Hi

Fixed (at least for now).

The Magix Ofa Helper is the program part that opens the news dialog before you shut down - the setting appears to be corrupted.

After some digging I have found there was a Windows update installed after the last time I used MMM 2016 on my PC.  I suspect from the details of the update it looks something in the Windows security was updated which has messed up MMM 2016.

Try the following:

  1. Open the program settings and remove the check from Hide news.

  2. Close the program (use Task Manager if necessary)

  3. Restart MMM and close it - the News dialog should appear - check the Do not show again option, MMM should close.

  4. Restart and close MMM several times to check it now shuts down properly.

Note: If the above fails - right click the program shortcut and select Run as Administrator then repeat the above - in step 4 you should be able to run and close the program normally ie not using Run as Administrator.

Now to fix my laptop which has a different issue with MMM2016 which started after the Windows update was installed.

Hi John.

Not solved I'm afraid.

The tickbox was not checked, and when I tried to do it, the program froze.

I then tried resetting all to default. Magix is meant to shut down and reatart, but it didn't. I closed with Task manager and the prog restarted automatically, but still with the checkbox unticked. It would again only close with Task Manager.

Bill Gates - dontcha love him?

Best wishes,

Tony
