Terrible distortion on export.

Ok, now I know this subject has been posted before, but those posts are quite old and I didn't really understand some of the answers.
In the old days, on the Amiga, I could play my synths through midi, record as mp3, live and there you go.
With MMM it's completely different and I am utterly lost.
I've composed my song, finally after getting the glitches out of the way, thanks to the amazing support I got and I'm ready to export it into mp3 or wav.
I've read the posts relating to this problem, turning off normalise, wav as single files etc., but when I play it back, through Winamp for example, it's like the instruments have started foaming at the mouth with rage. I started laughing in the end because it sounded that bad. I really want you guys to hear it. How can I do that?
Anyway, volumes adjusted etc, but no change. Would it be a cpu issue? Mine has a benchmark of 5336, or is it something stupid that I've over-looked?

Thanks peeps.

Hi.

If you'd like us to be able to hear an example of the export distortion you are hearing, why not create a very short, c. 10 seconds, file, perhaps taken from a longer file, preferably in wav format and attach it to your next post? Please don't post an mp3 because the actual process of creating the mp3 could add further distortion.

Hi

In addition to Jeff's comment - when you open the mixer (M key) and play the composition on the timeline do any of the level meters, track or master, go into the orange or red?

Hi again and once again, thank you for helping me out.
Checking the mixer, The drums only just hit the orange level, so I'm going to mess around with that to see if it helps. I didn't even think of looking at that....

Thank you guys for your help. Turns out it's a cpu problem. So far though, it's behaving itself.
THANK YOU!!
