Syncing storyboard with lyrics in music video

dscoyne wrote on 8/11/2015, 7:56 PM

I am not yet a user of Movie Edit Pro, but I want to make music videos and avoid a time-consuming problem I encounterd when using Windows Movie Maker. I write songs and want to make a video in which the photos or vidio clips used in the storyboard sync exactly with specific lyrics in the song. In this procedure, the song goes into the audio track first and then I match up specific imported photos or video clips with certain lines in the song when I put them on the storyboard, and the timing must be exact.

The problem I had was that after getting some of the storyboard set up which linked perfectly with particular measures in the song, if I then made any changes in the storyboard such as taking a picture or transition out, the other parts of the storyboard would move so that the pictures were no longer synced to the particular parts of the song where I wanted them. It required constant adjusting to get everything lined up once again every time I made a change.

So what I want to know for any new video editing program that I get is this: Is there an option you can trigger to keep photos that are already set in the storyboard from moving to a diferent place relative to the audio when you remove or add other parts? Will Movie Edit Pro accommodate me easily in this way? Does it have an option specifically for that? And if so, can you direct me to any documentation that explains that procedure?

Thanks for any help. Don

Hi

Try downloading the trial version and test it to see if it does what you want.

Note the trial version will have limited available codecs, due to licensing, and can only export the first three minutes of video, however their is more than enough functionality to test what you require.

If you decide to purchase get the Plus or Premium version

Just to add to what John EB has written, for what you are trying to do the use of the "Timeline" edit screen rather than the "Storyboard" screen in MEP will make your task so much easier.

Hi Don,

Movie Edit Pro Plus/Premium (I don't suggest the basic version) allows you to move to audio to the nearest frame, which is usually close enough. Magix Video Pro X7 allows even more flexibility by moving audio to less than one frame. There is also a tool to help detect beats and create cut points on the beats. This allows you to snap a photo or video clip to the precise cut point. Or you can just create snap points where you want. This makes it even easier to line up audio with video/photos.

Also, there are trimming methods in Timeline mode that allow either deleting leaving a gap, or no with single track or multitrack rippling.

You didn't say how you are recording your music. Magix also has fabulous music programs starting with Music Maker and Music Studio all the way up to Samplitude ProX2, the pro DAW. Music Maker and Samplitude Pro X2 handle video, allowing precise arranging of music with video. The other way is not quite so obvious, but you can tether either program with Movie Edit Pro and thus edit both simultaneously. For a start, take a look at my tutorial on using Movie Edit Pro with Music Maker under the Tutorials tab.
