Supported formats & codecs for importing?

Vaygrim wrote on 3/21/2015, 10:44 PM

I've just invested in Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Plus and immediately started running into difficulties with supported file formats. I'm using software like DXTory or Bandicam to capture, usually in AVI format using H.264 codec, and everything I import is coming back with a real flickery playback. The flickering even carries through to rendering, as well. Any time I change my capture software over to MP4, then MEP2015 declares that the MP4 file "doest not contain a codec" ?

Can anyone help me. I'm really hoping that I haven't ended up wasting $60 on MEP 2015 via Steam as I'm not 100% sure I can get my money back.

Hi and welcome to the Magix Forum,

Make sure that you do 3 things:

1. Make sure that you have activated MEP with the serial number and registered with Magix.

2. Go to Help, Free downloads and download and install everything.

3. Go to Help, Update online and update to the latest patch.

Normally, MEP 2015 Plus mp4 codec has to be activated. It is free and usually you are asked to activate it the first time that you need it. It should work so long as you have also activated MEP.

You can also go to Help, Install extra programs and there should be to MainConcept codecs indicated.

Let us know if this helps.

As for the capture software and the video format, someone else will have to help you out there.

Go to Help where? There is no "Help" on the main Magix Website, only Support. The program itself has a Help menu but no Free Downloads or Update options.

Hi!

The program itself has a Help menu but no Free Downloads or Update options.

I think this advice was misleading since the "free download" option only exists if you purchased a download version of the software, but not in the "box versions".

Did you install the latest patch? (help -> update online)

It is also recommended to reset the program afterwards: "File -> settings -> reset program settings to default"

How did you export the project at the end? Always remember that "file" -> "export movie" is a much better way (more detailed options) than the button in the top right of the program and "output as video file".

Regards,

Markus

Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Plus.. as purchased from Steam (which I did mention above)... doesn't have an "Update Online" option under the help menu.

Help, Context Help, Manual PDF, Show Introduction video online, Display tooltips, magix.info - The Multimedia community, Online tutorials, Register Online, Install Extra Programs (MainConcept MPEG-2 Codec), and About MAGIX Movie Edit Pro.

That's everything under help.

Hi

. . . . I'm using software like DXTory or Bandicam to capture . . . .

Presumably you are screen capture/recording game play ?

. . . . everything I import is coming back with a real flickery playback . . . .

That would suggest the capture is dropping frames and / or you are capturing at a low framerate.

What framerate is the capture/recording software achieving and is it consistent or variable?

Hi!

In all cases I capture at either 30 FPS (29.97) or 60 FPS (59.97 ?), steady and smooth. I'm coming from Serif Movie Plus X6 (which is great but.. limited) and it has zero problems dealing with these files. They are AVI files with multitrack audio (1 track for gameplay, 1 for my commentary). I've tried separating out audio and video into all three separate tracks.. that still didn't help.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Unfortunately this question is still unanswered, and Technical Support hasn't been able to figure out what's wrong.

Hi,

Very odd. Looks suspiciously like a corrupted installation. But as you've had discussions with Magix Technical Support I assume you've already tried uninstalling, cleaning up, and re-installing?

I also assume they ruled out the possibility of a registration/activation issue? Anyway, check the last posts by John Baker in these two threads in case they offer any clues.

Tried removing and reinstalling, that didn't resolve the issue. Tech support has also only done the "Have you updated your video / motherboard drivers" routine just yet. I haven't heard back from them in DAYS now since I told them that didn't work.

The thing is.. I am almost 100% sure it's the formatting of my files. Wrong keyframe interval or something like that.

What makes me say that? Well footage from Bandicam doesn't work, but footage from OBS works fine.

Both capturing at the same resolution, same encoding (H264), at the same framerate (29.97). So what else is the difference between them? What is the 'preferred' file format / configuration in order to ensure compatibility with MAGIX MEP?

No one seems to want to tell me this. :/

Hi,

I was really only addressing the issue about your apparently missing 'Update online'. Did MAGIX resolve that? More to the point, are you and MAGIX now confident you have the latest patches?

On the matter of the imports, what does MediaInfo or GSpot say are the required codecs?

If you can upload a small sample file we can try it.

I purchased MEP via Steam, and it automatically updates. Technical support has yet to get back to me to try and verify if they've got the latest patches via steam or what.

Hi I've have a Richo Theta V, and I am trying to import this Codec for it.

Video: MP4 (Video: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, H.265*7, Audio: AAC-LC (mono) + Linear PCM (4ch spatial audio)

I have tried Magix directly, but they were unable to help.

Can anyone else help me with this?

Tim

@harding_family

Can I suggest you repost this as a new thread/topic since the previous most recent post was more than three years ago? That way you are rather more likely to receive helpful advice because your post will be more visible.

In your "new" post it would be helpful to include full details of your computer and the exact name and version number of the Magix product you are using.  This post will give you some idea of the information we need!

In general terms, if a codec is installed on your system and is available to all software (so not proprietary to a specific app) Magix should be able to see/use it. Where have you obtained the codec details which you gave in your post?
