I'm using Movie Studio Platinum to edit full-width side-by-side 3D Video. Editing & everything works fine while editing. But when I try to export video with a full-width side-by-side setting it's rendering as half-width side-by-side. I tried changing aspect ratios, and resolution but nothing worked.
Could you put a short video clip onto Google Drive for us to try out? To see if a bug has crept into the program. There are not a lot of people here doing 3D so few if any that bother to help out here would know, including me.
Before you do that though make sure you are using the latest graphics drivers for your GPUs and that you are on the current build of your operating system. If they get out of step with each other it can cause problems.
Also can you put the specification of your computer in your signature please? It could save a lot of further questions.
Loading the clip onto the timeline and checking the setting the program has chosen you should see it has set it as the following. (use the three bar icon in the monitor view to see that)
Export using the same settings.
The resulting exported video.
Do not worry I used Video Pro X. The settings and results will be the same. I have both programs.
If that doesn't work for you then we will need your computer specs as outlined in this topic.
I have removed my previous comment after more testing and getting 'strange results' following further research, ie I read the manual 😕.
From the manual:
Depending on your playback device, you should set double resolution in order to produce full resolution for both the right and the left image.
Not all playback devices are capable of double resolution. If this is the case for your device, 50% pinched images will be displayed. The quality is nevertheless higher than output using the anaglyph technique.
Assuming your output file image in your first post is playback on the computer monitor, what does the exported video look like when played on a 3D (Stereo) capable TV?
After setting up the project and adding your 32:9 ratio manually and saving, upon reopening it looked like this.
Look at the aspect ratio. I decided to leave it. Set the monitor to to the correct view and got this.
Again I left the view and setting as it is seen above with a seemingly double exposer of the left and right sides.
Then I manually typed in the settings again into the MP4 export option. Again the weird ratio repeated but I left that but increased the bit rates to what you see in the image below as I felt the quality could be improved.
While exporting the export preview looked like this.
But the resulting file looks like this
I think it has exported correctly and it is the one in the current link above to download.
I have placed 2 video exports on Google Drive here for you to test.
I do not have a 3D TV with me, or headset to test with, however playing both videos in PowerDVD and using the cross eyed viewing technique I do get the 3D effect - it was a brilliant idea to use the bubble gun that enhanced the 3D perception👍😂
Both exports were
SBS FW is Full Width option and SBS HW is Half Width.
Sadly no, I don't think that worked correctly on the export. It had to be the same as the project settings as shown in my images above. The export is then exported with no side bars as shown in the thumbnail which I think would be correct.
I could still be wrong as I have no way to verify the viewing experience. This is why I copied copied @johnebaker in to every reply. To get his feedback. I don't think he does any 3D either but has been around a lot longer on the forums than I have.
I think in the time I have been here in around nine years I have only seen about three to four enquiries regarding 3D exports and none of those people have ever given any advice and most used the 2D anaglyph method.
I'm not aware of that issue, but you have to add Stereo 3D Effect to Side by Side Video Clip to add transitions, tItles etc. And then export it as Side by Side Full Width video
I have seen your video, and it works! But the issue here is that you have to add Stereo 3D Properties from the Effect panel not for only viewing purposes but also for Editing purposes as well. If you didn't add the Stereo 3D Properties Effect you can't make the title text, and transition perfectly. That's the point here. Without Stereo 3D Properties Effect I could export video in full-width.

That is correct without the option set, the video object would be treated as a whole and not 'virtually' split into 2 independent halves for editing, also it appears that the flag to indicate to the player the video is 3D stereo is also not put into the video file header.
I am, currently on somewhere between 10th and 20th test export, I've lost count 😕.
Transitions - Crossfade, Brush strokes, Fold tiles (impressive) and Shutter work, Fade through (colour) works but is bit 😒. So far the only ones which do not export are the Blurry effect transitions.
Titles - no problems with the none Xara 3D ones - best to keep them to the pure text ones, the Intro, Outro and Captions with graphics sort of work.
To make the standard static or animated ones to be 3D, do not duplicate it, just apply the Stereo 3D effect to the title object, and the move the Stereo depth slider to the right bring the effect forward - when you preview in Anaglyph the red text should got to the right, the cyan to the left, you can also KF the depth effect - see image below.
Oops my bad, I should have been more precise in clearly stating that the Anaglyph is for previewing only, to ensure the Stereo effects is applied and adjusted correctly.
I was exporting as 3D stereo SBS, full or half width, MP4 files for testing in PowerDVD and VLC.
From past experience if the Anaglyph preview is showing the correct behaviour, then the 3D stereo SBS, full or half width, MP4 files will work correctly on a 3D TV given the caveat that some 3D TV's do not detect the flag and whether the video file is full width/half width side by side or top/bottom.
