Splitting/Separating MIDI into multiple tracks

Hello. I have Samplitude Music Studio and I was wondering how it's possible to separate a midi track into several tracks.

I create my drum tracks in tuxguitar(guitar pro) and export them into my DAW. Once they are exported in, I try and separate each piece of the kit into several track, but I'm not sure how to in my DAW.

I've heard a lot of different opinions about single drum tracks or breaking them into multiple ones. Is it just as effective as a single drum track rather than breaking them into multiple ones or no?

Thanks

Anema

Hi Anema,

Personally when I'm working on drum tracks I keep everything on the same track because you then get a better idea of the overall midi construction when editing. So my workflow is to use multiple outputs for the actual drum sampler I'm using so that the audio is on separate tracks, but I keep the midi altogether on one track.

As far as splitting the midi onto separate tracks there is unfortunately no fast way to do this. The only way would be to copy the tracks multiple times depending how many you need. For example kick, snare, hats, toms and overheads. Then select each MIDI object and delete the notes not needed.

Hope that helps.
