Splittign channels from video files

Hi. I am using Movie Edit Pro 16 on win 7.

I Use a Sony PXW-180 video recorder. Last night while filming a band the mixer asked did I want a direct feed. In the first ch I was using a Rode mic and in the second ch I was using his direct feed.

My Question is; in Movie Edit Pro 16, how can I find the two distinct tracks and separate them. SO the mic ch is audience as well and the second ch is just the instruments no crowd noises.

I Just want to add the direct feed audio to the visual footage. Thanks.

Hi

. . . . using Movie Edit Pro 16 . . . Sony PXW-180 . . . find the two distinct tracks and separate them . . . .

Do you mean Movie Edit Pro 16 or Movie Edit Pro 2016

Movie Edit Pro (MEP) does not support using two or more audio channels simultaneously, and AFAIK MEP 16 does not have the capability of switching the current audio track in use as later versions do.

The easiest method to get the second audio channel is to extract the it using 3rd party software such as Handbrake - see this YT video on how to do this

Do save the export with a different name to identify it is the second channel, note if there are multiple video clips in the project do the conversion on them all before editing in MEP.

Import the original and modified videos into MEP stacking them one above the other, they must align with each other.

Ungroup the converted video audio, and delete the video component, group the original video and the audio track.

Note: if you have MEP 2016 it does have a feature to switch audio tracks without conversion, however it does require a duplicate set of the source files with different names.
