soundtrack slower than video on imported mp4 in MEP 2013 MX PLus

I defer to this post in the forum
http://www.magix.info/us/soundtrack-slower-than-video-mep17plus.forum.774432.html

Unfortunately I did not see an answer posted and wasn't sure if I should reply to that thread... or start anew. Alas, I start anew. (Though I was curious if Tequila under a full moon perhaps WAS the answer?)

I too am having the exact same problem with videos being imported from my Samsung smart phone.
They play fine in Windows Movie Player and a few other video players . But they don't play nice with MEP 2013 MX Plus. I have an HP dv6TQE Quad Edition computer with all the bells and whistles- high graphics card, 1TB memory, tons of Ram. Don't believe that's the problem.

In many cases, upon importing to MEP (and not adjusting to the file import size), one or more of the following happens-
the audio is mismatched to the video and/or
the audio continues to play while the video stops about 20% of the way in...

If I can trust the information given here
http://www.ehow.com/how_8529169_install-mpeg4-sedg-codec-computer.html
then, I believe it needs the Samsung Codec mentioned.

But when I look through Magix Help Contents , it states I have to pay to get Magix to shake hands with purchased codecs? Is that true?

Do I have to have Magix do something on their end to 'activate' the codec...or will MEP magically locate the codec when opening the file?

Thanks in advance,
Paula
p.s. I can place one of the videos into a Dropbox file, if that would help you to download one of the MP4s yourself.  Maybe you'll have better luck?

Hi Paula,

This sync issue has been cropping up in these forums for years, in just about every version. Unfortunately there appear to be a whole bunch of potential causes and these include bugs in the program itself as well as issues of codec unavailability or incompatibility. So in parallel with pursuing a solution here, I'd suggest you post a formal support request.Go to https://support2.magix.com/customer/magix_contact , choose Technical Support, and proceed from there. Make sure you included exactly which 'Samsung smartphone' you have. Copy/paste your report somewhere for later reference or chasing if you don't get a prompt response from Magix. Come to that, post a copy here too.

From your description the most likely cause does sound like that Samsung codec. Can you use GSpot or MediaInfo on one of the misbehaving video files to report its detailed information. And, yes, please upload a small one to Dropbox so that we can try it.

It sounds like you've already tried the basic fixes, but just to go over a few points.

You didn't say but I'm assuming from your reference to that earlier thread that these are MP4 files? If so then did you right click and use Create new frame table? In both the case of using Adjust and Do not adjust at import time? Also repeat those two tests after locating and removing any temporary .HDP and .H0 that you find in the same folder as the source video files, as these sometimes screw up the process.

Did you try adjusting the settings I've highlighted here? Try using mine to see if it makes any difference.

Or for better quality: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/MEP2013-PlaybackSettings-3.jpg

And another longshot I'd try in your place, once I'd downloaded the appropriate Samsung codec from Samsung (presumably free) would be to uncheck the option I've shown here and test the result methodically.

Also see if any of these threads offer any help:

I just had a problem with audio synch from MOV files which has been recorded on panasonic HD cameras with firestor drives attached.

In the end, I used VLC to split the audio and video without transcoding. As long as the lag is consistent, you can slow or speed the audio file accordingly.

After 5 days I think it fair to expect some feedback, given the hour or two I spent researching and preparing a detailed atempt to help.

Hi Terry

Deja vu feeling again - I posted an answer to this one and it has 'disappeared'.

I wonder if the OP will come back and confirm if the problem is fixed.

The actual problem is very common with video taken on smartphones.

In the majority of cases the video 'standard' has been modified to enable more video to be stored on the phones, so it is no longer standard.

Some smartphone suppliers include software to get the video off the phones and allow conversion to a standard format.

I'm grateful for the time spent on your reply, Terry; so it wasn't a complete waste of time...

Hi John,

Another case of the vanishing posts! At least the whole thread hasn't vanished like that earlier example.

I share your speculation and hope we do hear back from the OP. Apart from the basic courtesy, I'm curious to know the solution.
