Sound in sync in editor, not in produced file

Donald-Kimball wrote on 2/20/2022, 9:52 PM

Hey,

So I've been using Movie Edit Pro Plus for about 6 months no issue, but recently when I've been producing the final MP4, the sound and video become out of sync.

What's weird is in the actual editor the sound file (I use separate audio and video files for the best audio editing) and the video file stay in sync to the end. The preview never gets out of sync. But when I produce the file, no matter what file format I use, it seems to get out of sync.

I'm using a video file from Riverside.fm, but again, in the actual editor they stay in sync, the problem only occurs with the final version of the file. I've tried redownloading the file from Riverside, using different file formats, even rebuilding from a new project. In the video editing I'm using multiple video tracks (one for a graphic that plays at the start and end, then two video files that are myself and my co-host talking cropped side by side), one audio track (high quality audio produced and send over) and then image files (screenshots that fade in and out of the video).

Any tips? I'm on MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus version 21.0.1.119 (UDP3)

Greetings @Donald-Kimball and welcome to the forum.

"Any tips?" you ask. There are many, most of which will have nothing to do with your problem.

I have no doubt there is an easy answer to your syncing issue so to begin can I suggest you read this https://www.magix.info/us/forum/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question--621831/ to begin with and at least give us a fighting chance?

Looking at the Riverside.fm app it may not be possible to edit the files without first converting all of them with something like Handbrake so all the files have the same audio sampling frequency and frame rate as it appears that each participant would be in charge of their own individual settings at their end.

Trying to edit such files if they contain variable frame rates coupled with different sampling frequencies is going to give you the problems you are experiencing and possibly why Riverside.fm has it's own cloud based editor.

To find out if the files are recorded with variable frame rates or different audio sampling frequencies you will have to follow the guide Andy has pointed to. To convert the files to something usable, the Handbrake app can be found here.

1. Thanks for the welcome. I'll try to give as much information as I can.

I'm on Windows 10 Pro, version 19044.1526.

Intel Core i5-10400 CPU @ 2.90GHz, 16GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3070Ti, two SSD internal drives (250GB, 1TB) and one M1 SSD (1TB). MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus version 21.0.1.119 (UDP3)

Let me know what else I can provide.

2. So I've edited using Riverside and this program fine for the last five months, it's only recently this desyncing occurs, and it affects both participants video. Like I said, we take the audio separately out and master it then put it back in. This system has worked for five months. This desync has happened twice, once about two weeks ago, then I edited two videos with sound added separately fine with no issues, then again today. So it's not even consistently messing up which is odd. I would reiterate that in the editor it syncs and matches no problem but once it's produced, only at about the 3 minute mark it adds the delay. Very strange.

I'll try the Handbrake deal, I use that pretty regularly so I'll give it a shot. It just seems odd that all of a sudden it would have this issue. Now that I think about it, it may have only started occurring after I updated Movie Edit Pro Plus to a newer version.

Hi

Can you put your computer specification in your Profile, Signature please - it will save us having to ask again in future problems you may encounter.

Are you extracting the audio from the video or recording it separately?

Will add.

We download the files separately from Riverside then produce. This is the way we've done it for the past six months with no issues. I would also think if it was an issue with the files themselves it would show up in the editor desyncing, which it doesn't. They stay perfectly in sync in the editor. And I should say the desync on the final file is not slight, it's off by a good second or two, extremely noticeable, not something that you might miss in the editor.

Just want to highlight this, this seems to have fixed the issue! So big thanks for the suggestion to process via Handbrake before editing.

Good to hear!

You can, as the poster of the topic, just tick the correct response as 'The solution' ( a button in the top left had corner of each reply) and that will appear on the topic header in the forum. That may help others with the same problem find an answer quicker when using the search section.
