Sound Forge Pro 14 Plugin Chainer & Batch Converter

DoctorOfMusic wrote on 5/27/2020, 5:01 AM

Every time there's a new release of Sound Forge Pro I try the demo, and every time I return to Sony Sound Forge Pro Version 10. I know this is going back some time, but I still really dislike the revised Plugin Chainer which came in with V.11 (originally Sony). I know a lot of people have got used to it, and think it's better, but I don't — and I'm not being difficult ;-)
But surely it must be possible to add an option to choose the 'classic' plugin chainer? It might involve some extra code but we're hardly short of disc space these days? This feature might finally prompt me to upgrade, because although SF Pro 10 still (mostly) does what I want, support for newer plugins etc. would be useful.

Incidentally, unless I'm very much mistaken I understand there's a bug in the batch converter in the new SF Pro 14, where it throws up an error opening files?

Hi @DoctorOfMusic and welcome to the Sound Forge forum .

You are not alone DOM. Many preferred the lecacy record and plug-in chainer UI, me included. <rant> I questioned SCS about these bone-headed changes whilst beta testing Pro 11. I was totally ignored. </end rant>

That said, to use in the earlier chainer style, first go to the Fx Favorites menu and select "Apply Plug-in chain".. Unfortunately though, most of the automation cannot be used in this mode (DUH again).

Thank you — Well it's encouraging to know it's not just me ;-)
Is it worth pressing for the 'classic' chainer to be reinstated — but as a selectable option in the Preferences? Then everyone would be happy?
I don't really know my way around the multitude of forums, though, so I'm not sure of the right place to make such a request....

I have been requesting side-chain plug-in support in Vegas since it was originally published as an audio only application (1999), if that tells you anything.. though SF and VP were originally published by Sonic Foundry) then came SCS (Sony) and now Magix. Requests probably still go in the malcontent folder.

Yes I too date back to the Sonic Foundry days. Can't remember at which version I joined, but I immediately preferred it to Cool Edit. I wonder what happened to that?!
Malcontent folder — yes maybe. But Sound Forge10 is still a very good piece of software, so I shall stick with it & in doing so save myself some money.
I'm about to begin mastering another album with it. I'll be using the plugin chainer, obviously ;-)

@DoctorOfMusic

Cool Edit. I wonder what happened to that?!

Just in case your question was not rhetorical: it became and still remains Adobe Audition.

No there was an exclamation after the question mark ;-)

I used Syntrillium's Cool Edit Pro way back when, but much preferred the Vegas/Sound Forge combo. I dislike AA even more now since it is subscription (aka, ransom) based.
