Sound Forge not allowing different devices for recording and playback

I have a Windows 11 system, with the usual Microsoft/Realtek playback. But I also have a Steinberg UR22C audio input box connected to a USB 3.0 port. At one point, I could record through the Steinberg and play back through the Realtek connection to my speakers. I am using Sound Forge Audio Studio 17.0.2 (Build 109)

For some reason when I tried this today, if the input it set to the Steinberg, then output ONLY goes to the Steinberg. If I set the input OR output device (under Options->Preferences) to Steinberg, then both input and output go to the Steinberg. If I set it to the Microsoft Windows devices, then both input and output use the Microsoft devices.

At one point, I could split the two using the Steinberg for recording input, and the default Microsoft stuff for output.

Does this behavior ring any bells for anyone? All (useful) suggestions/observations appreciated.

Regards,

Bob
