Sound Forge Audio Studio 17 doesn't detect Ozone 11 Standard (VST3)

drmq wrote on 1/29/2025, 3:55 PM

I'm running Sound Forge Audio Studio 17.0.2 (Build 109) 64-bit.

It is not detecting Ozone 11 Standard (VST3) in its latest version (11.2.0), installed via Native Access from Native Instruments.

Ozone 11 is running fine in Ableton Live, Studio One and ProTools but isn't even detected in Sound Forge. Ozone 11 Equalizer (VST3) has the same issue. The much older Ozone 7 (VST3) is strangely detected though.

Help please, Ozone is as en essential tool in mastering for me so if I can't run it in Sound Forge, there is no point in using the latter anymore.

@drmq Please check the VST settings in the program preferences. Make sure the VST3 path is included (usually C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\) and rescan the paths.

I did already, that is why Ozone 7 (VST3) is detected. Ozone 11 is in the same path but it is not detected.

@drmq Did you click on Refresh?

@drmq Did you click on Refresh?

Yes I did. Ozone 11 shows up while it is scanning but it is not added to the list.

@drmq You can still try to reset the program settings under the File menu. Maybe there is something blocking Ozone 11 from being added to the list. Maybe it was blacklisted in a program config file after a problem?

Yes sure, I could also format my disk and re-install Windows... Have you managed to run Ozone 11 in Sound Forge in your computer? It looks like Sound Forge doesn't recognize it when it is scanning it and doesn't add it.

@drmq Works in my version of Sound Forge 12. But I haven't updated Ozone to 11.2 yet.

@drmq I updated Ozone to 11.2.0.3296 and it still works fine in my version of Sound Forge 12.

Did you restart the PC, I have had newly installed plug-ins become available after restating the PC.
btw, shutting down and rebooting is different than the restart process @SP. has stated in other threads.

@rraud Could it be, that newer versions of Sound Forge load ARA plugins differently? I saw some old topics about plugins were listed as of type ARA instead of type VST3 and then they didn't work correctly. My version of Sound Forge 12 shows Ozone 11 as VST3.

? I am trying to record with a USB microphone, and I keep getting an error message saying a device is unavailable. I went to Windows, made sure the USB mic was set to input. I went to Preferences in Sound Forge, turned on Wave Direct, and I saw the USB mic. I even unplugged the mic and tried going through my speakers; nothing worked. I can't record in Sound Forge. It works just fine on my old computer—it's plug and play—but my new Asus ProArt 16 is not.

@drmq @rraud So, I tried Sound Forge 15, 17 and 18. And Ozone 11 only works in SF18 (besides my trusty version SF12). SF15 only recognizes it as an ARA plugin and does nothing, SF17 also recognizes it as a VST3 plugin, but it doesn't open like the ARA version. In SF18 it works.

In SF15 and SF17 I can get around this problem by using a VST chainer plugin like Plogue Bidule. Beside that, SF17 crashed often.

@Harold-Brush his has nothing to do with Ozone 11 and Sound Forge, but make sure to enable microphone access in the Windows security settings. Otherwise Windows will prevent any software from recording microphones.

Yes I did that too and it still doesn't work. @SP. has confirmed this problem too.

Hi @SP., I do not think Ozone 11 is ARA compatible. AFAIK, the ARA plug-ins can be used as ARA and VST3 and are in the Common files> VST3 folder like SpectraLayers and Melodyne.

@rraud @drmq Maybe this is a problem caused by Ozone 11.2. I haven't tested version 11.0 in SF 15 and 17 before I updated. I will check it I can find the old installation files.

At a loss? Maybe my usb mic is not right but I tried just using my speakers.

SP. wrote on 1/31/2025, 12:44 PM

@Harold-Brush The switch "Let desktop apps access your microphone" is off. Sound Forge is a desktop app, not from the Microsoft Store like the apps individually listed.
