Sound Forge Audio Studio 17

Garry-Long wrote on 3/28/2023, 11:16 AM

Hi, I recently upgraded SFAS 16 to version 17. Today is the first day that I have tried using the vinyl recording restoration section of version 17 but it keeps giving me an error message saying there is no device connected. So I closed v17 down & opened v16 up and it worked straight away - why will v17 not work please yet v16 still does with no issues? I've paid for the upgrade to v17 so I want to use it! Please help?

@Garry-Long Are the audio driver settings in the preferences for both versions identical? If not try to set up version 17 identical to version 16.

Hi SP, thanks for responding. I have to be honest I’m a bit of a novice with these kinds of things but I think I’ve found out where to look?

Is it in the Options - Preferences - Audio section? If so it looks like they are both the same, they both read Windows Sound Mapper or something along those lines!

@Garry-Long Have you tried restarting your computer? Maybe SF16 blocks your device so it cannot be used in SF17.

Be aware to select Restart and not to select Shut down.

Hi SP, I have this morning logged back in again from fresh but I still get an error message saying something like there’s no device to connect. I admit I haven’t tried just restarting so I’ll give that a try a bit later on. I did think of uninstalling v16 but then I thought why would v16 work when there’s a newer version installed, surely it would have the same affect!

Does this happen in SF-17 only when using the vinyl recording restoration tools.. or in general?

There is usually no need to uninstall older versions.

There may be another program on you PC using the MS Sound Mapper Try using the Classic Waves driver audio device..

Greetings.... I have a question, I recently upgraded to SFv16 in late January 2023, Now SFv17 is out. How do i upgrade? is my key the same ?

SP. wrote on 3/29/2023, 2:22 PM

@DJ-KJJ You can buy the price reduced upgrade from Magix. But in my opinion it's not worth the asking price if you don't want to use external effects. Maybe wait until a new version comes out with features you definitely want. Magix usually releases a new version every 12 months.

Hi, I Have Sound Forge Audio Studio 16, I urgently need to erase a voice of a home video and keep the music so I can cut in with another live video of our friend who died recently. In the two videos he recites the same poem. The voice is not paced at the same time in both videos. I cannot find the way to do it . Is there someone who has done it? Thanks

SP. wrote on 3/29/2023, 5:42 PM

@BIENVE It might be easier to get the music by itself (in case it is a known song) from the internet and layer it over the audio to replace the voice of the original video.

Another thing that might help is the free tool Ultimate Vocal Remover v5. Depending on the audio quality it might be able to split the music from the voice.

The only other way to split voice and music would be doing it manually in a spectral editing tool like SpectraLayers Pro from Steinberg. They offer a free 30 day trial version without feature limitations. But this is more laborious and time consuming to do.

I thought you are protected if a new version is released, you follow the upgrade. it's on the site. Has something changed?

I believe this very much depends upon when you bought the previous version. I think a purchase in January is classed as being outside the free update time-frame, sorry.

Thanks to those that tried to help with my v17 vinyl restoration recording method.

I also contacted Magix direct who made a few suggestions for me to try, none of which worked & it now seems they have given up trying which I find very disappointing. So looks like a money back refund from them which I really didn’t want but if it doesn’t work properly then that’s the only obvious resolution.

@Garry-Long

Hi

. . . . I also contacted Magix direct who made a few suggestions for me to try, none of which worked & it now seems they have given up trying which I find very disappointing. . . . .

Did you feedback to Support by responding to their email with the suggested solutions to try?

If so they, and users here, may be having difficulties replicating the issue you are having.

. . . . error message saying there is no device connected . . . .

This is usually a driver issue, however as SF 16 works this may not be the case here.

Can you clarify if the error occurs when you want to start recording a vinyl, or when trying to process audio already recorded.

If starting recording what is the amplifier/audio converter device connected to the PC, or are you feeding the audio direct to the Line in of the sound card?
