Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 on Windows 10

kthx1138 wrote on 5/6/2020, 11:28 AM

Ever since Windows 10 performed automatic updates, Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 is requiring me to update registration, even though the product is already registered, and when I click ok to begin registration and click "yes" to Windows 10 requiring administrative priveledges to register the program, nothing happens. What gives???

Hi @kthx1138 and welcome to the Sound Forge group/

Assuming Sound Forge AS (Audio Studio) is like SF Pro, you may want to try the 'Elevated Privilege' registry tweak. This unfortunately needs to be done occasionally as it is not a permanent fix. Be aware of the usual risks of changing the registry.

If one is not comfortable delving into the registry, the other option is to uninstall/reinstall,. but I od not think that is a permanent fix either, and any personal customizations would need to be reset. Note: I usually recommend a third-party uninstaller that cleans the registry and other pertinent system data.

The Win 10 update / Elevated Privilege annoyance affected Sound Forge 10 and SF-11. I have found or read of any rhyme or reason why this affects some PCs and not others or why not all Win 10 updates trigger the behavior. SF-12 and later seem to be OK.

Thanks! Yes, elevated priveledges is exactly what happened after a Windows 10 automatic update. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Sound Forge with the same message. It seems the problem is solved by right-clicking on the Sound Forge program and left-clicking "run as administrator"...for now. I was able to open Sound Forge and continue working as normal. Thanks again!

Glad you are up and running again. Yes, "run as administrator" is an option but requires clicking 'allow' each time SF is initiated. But that is a minor annoyance compared to not working at all. The reg tweak eliminates the 'allow' click,. Regards and stay well.

I have same problem. Asked for Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 is requiring me to update registration, even though the product is already registered, and when I click ok to begin registration and click "yes" to Windows 10 requiring administrative privileges to register the program, nothing happens.

I have windows 8.1

I am not sure about Win 8,
Try SF-10 registry tweak (which would be similar to Win 10) or the 'run as administrator' setting in the SF-10 'Properties> Compatibility' menu. You could do a complete uninstall/reinstall using Revo Uninstall .. which can remove the pertinent leftover data files the default uninstall leaves behind.
Upgrading to SF-17 is another option, If you purchase the 'upgrade' using your SF-10 serial you will get the discount. However.. SF-16/17 currently has display issues with third-party 32 bit VST-2 plug-ins, which hopefully will be fixed soon.

If I upgrade to SF 17, will it be compatible the windows 8 ? I need to solve immediately as I have to record a Radio show and submit in time.

@Neelam-Panditpautra There is no more official compatibility with Windows 8 since Microsoft stopped it's development. You might try the free 30 days trial version and see if it works.
