Sound Forge activation

Andrew-Newton wrote on 7/22/2020, 10:18 AM

Many years ago I purchased Sound Forge 9.0 for my Windows XP desktop Recently the motherboard failed and I replaced it. While trying to start up Sound Forge again it asked for Serial Number which I provided along with the Optional Activation Code. The Sound Forge opening screen now shows "Expires in 30 days". I want to keep using it, without an expiration, as I have been. How can this be remedied ? What additional information do you need? Did the motherboard replacement change the Machine Code for the product?

@Andrew-Newton

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

The only way to resolve this is to go to the Support page, via the Support button in the header of any forum page, and create a Ticket with Magix Sales. However, since version 9.0 is not very old, you may be "strongly encouraged" to update to a later version!

 What additional information do you need?

As explained above, we, as fellow-users, need no additional information since we have no means to help you with this problem.

Did the motherboard replacement change the Machine Code for the product?

Almost certainly, yes.

Did the installation file come from SCS? Assuming you have a valid serial number. Download SF-9 from the Magix Download Center. You will need your log-in info and a valid serial number. Alternately you can also download SF-9 from the Magix Service Center and go to the 'My Products' page to download. The registration data from SCS was transferred to Magix so can also retrieve the serial # if lost.

Uninstall the SCS version using a third-party uninstaller/cleaner and reinstall using the SF-9 installer from Magix.

FWIW, a friend of mine recently installed and activated SF- 9 (Pro) on a Win 10 PC without issue.

btw, Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge forum @Andrew-Newton.

HI @Andrew-Newton, I got the same error on my XP machine It must be the Magix download extractor that is not compatible with XP. To test, I started an install on a newer PC which created a "Magix Downloads" folder in 'Documents' which contained the unpacked installer file (soundforge90e_enu_9_0e.exe). That file executed normally on the XP machine. Start an install on a newer PC which will get you the unpacked installer, which should execute on Win XP . Send me a personal message on this forum if you need the unpacked file.

Magix versions 12 and beyond only install on Win 7-10.. An early build (272) of Pro 11 would install on XP & Vista PCs but subsequent builds would not. This was around the time of the Magix acquisition from SCS.

FWIW, There are 32 bit versions of SF 12-14 but they will also only install on Win 7-10. I installed both versions of SF Pro 14 so my favorite Direct X plug-in suite would run. Some DX plug-ins will run on a 64 bit host... some will not.
