Hi @Erwin-VandeWeghe, assuming you have tried shutting down and rebooting the PC, I try resetting SFP-15.
In the 'File' menu. select "Reset and clear cached data". Close and restart Sound Forge

If SF will not launch,: an alternate method is hold the "Ctrl+ Shift" keys whilst launching Sound Forge which should also display the reset dialog.

I've also been having same 'vcruntime140.dll' crash in SFP15 - but only when 'Channel Meters' is enabled in View menu (see attached) and I audition (with autoplay) a few files in the File/Open window.
Crash reproducible on 2 different Win10 PCs.
In both SFP14 and now SFP16(trial), I'm not experiencing this issue.
Strangely, the crash always occurs when Time Display is at 1sec 21 frames (00:00:01:21) !?

@ste_c

Hi

Did you try re-installing the Visual C++ runtimes ?

Hello everyone, thanks for the info. I have "Reset and clear cached data" and turn off the Channel Meters.

So far I haven't had the error anymore. . .

Is it the case that the program no longer works, but it needs to be updated (PAYING €299) to a new version? And I won't pay for the program, for which I have once paid €299. It becomes too difficult to buy expensive updates just because the program is deliberately made inoperable. When you dig enough images, the program starts working with the new version, no longer with the old Sound Forge Pro 15 version. Is it so?

P. S. I'm not paying!

Ugh! I have spoken!

@Former user No need to buy a new version. I still use Sound Forge 15. It has less problems than the new Version 17. So it's a better choice to use in my opinion.

How do I get Sound Forge Pro 15 working again and what is causing the problem discussed on this forum? Thank you.

@Former user

Your version of SF has definitely not been deliberately made inoperable! There are users who post here who are still successfully running versions considerably older than yours.

Have you read through and tried the various suggestions made earlier in this thread? With what results?

@Former user Yes, try to reset the program settings. If you cannot get into the program hold CTRL and SHIFT and double click on the program icon to start Sound Forge. Keep holding CTRL and SHIFT until a small window appears that will ask you if you want to reset the program settings.

The CTRL+SHIFT trick works! Thank you.
I retract all the deliberately made inoperable nonsense I started my first conversation with here. It is necessary to keep the so-called low profile, so that it doesn't open its legs unnecessarily.

I first used Sound Forge in the 90's when it was originally marketed by Sonic Foundry until it moved to Sony. I haven't found a replacement for it yet. This current Magix Sound Forge does not correspond to the Sound Forge of the 90s. Magix's program is too heavy and vulnerable to various errors, which I have personal experiences to share with others. Long live 90's Sound Forge!

What causes this, when I lower the sound level, the audio file turns into a puzzle as shown in the picture?

SP. wrote on 7/15/2023, 6:53 AM

@Former user In case you use compressed audio files like mp3 enable Options > Preferences > General> Always proxy compressed formats

The work is done again - normally.
