Sound Forge 15 Pro update to build 159 not good.

After the update, the program is partial working. Command buttons for back to start, seek, go to end, do not work. Tried uninstalling and re-downloaded and re-installed. Now it's even slower opening and randomly has trouble with vst scan. I want to have access to download the program without the build 159 update. I'm sorry I agreed to the update in the first place. I've worked with Sound Forge since version 4.5 XP thru to version 9 from Sony. Never needed any help with it until now.

Running Windows 10H v.21H2

The developers are aware of the 'Go to' Start/End abnormality, so a new update is pending.

If you have not deleted a previous builds' unpacked installer file, you can do repair install to a previous build. Look for the unpacked installer files in your "Documents> Magix Downloads> Installation manager" for build 64:
"SOUND_FORGE_Pro_15.0.0.64_DLV_US_x64_210726_22-22_35915D4F_15_0_0_64.exe "

If you do not have it and would like to roll back to build 64, PM me. Otherwise I recommend standing by for new build which should be available in January

I have a Magix Audio Cleaning Lab from 2005

I was not aware of a Cleaning Lab app.. at least not related to Sound Forge. Magix did not acquire Sound Forge and the other SCS titles until 2016.

In any case, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @1001001sos1001001 .

Very much appreciated info! I have the file ending in _15_0_0_64.exe. Never having to do this before, I need to ask what steps I should take for the install to be as good as it can be. I'm thinking first uninstall 159 using the control panel, then install 15 0 0 64. Please advise if I should remove anything else before I start. Thanks!

You will need to uninstall Sound Forge to re-install a legacy build, 'some' of your custom settings should remain if you use the default Windows uninstall.. I would still recommend waiting for the pending update, if the 'Go to' start/end command is the only issue you have with build 159

btw, the cumulative release notes for SFP-15 (including the current build 159) can be viewed here.

Got the install done. I'll wait for the next update. Of course every time SFP-15 is opened, I have to say "maybe later" to the update prompt. I wish that prompt had the update version so I could tell when they surpass 159. The non-functioning Go to start/end/seek commands were easily dealt with. After the 159 update, the program had trouble with the VST scan, randomly. After a week or so I thought, might as well uninstall 159 and reinstall it. After that it was worse. Build 64 is working great. Thanks again for the help.

On another note, is it possible to run it off-line with full function? If so I'd like any tips please.

@1001001sos1001001, I am not exactly sure what you mean by run off-line, but Sound Forge should function the same whether the host PC is connected to the internet or not... though Sound Forge ( and Vegas) does need to occasionally phone home, confirming some codec licenses.

The update pop-up is annoying fo'sure, I recall there was a way to permanently hide it, though I cannot recall or find a setting off-hand. It may have been a shortcut target appendage, similar to the VST no grovel.

After the 159 update, the program had trouble with the VST scans,

I have not noticed any VST issues with bld 159, though I may have VST scans disabled.

i also have no problem with vst scans, and i have a huge plugin collection...perhaps you need to reset your data cache or something like that. or perhaps you have a few plugins that need to be reinstalled. yeah, the update notification is truly annoying!

Now that build 64 is back on my system, there are no issues at all(including vst scans). Thanks!!

@1001001sos1001001 SFP-15 Build 161 has just be published. I can confirm the 'Go to' Start/End commands work again.

Build 161 release notes:
Transport toolbar and shortcuts
- Fix: The "Go to Start" and "Go to End"-buttons in the toolbar no longer worked
- Fix: The behavior of the "Pause"-button in the toolbar was unintentionally influence by "Spacebar and F12 Play/Pause instead of Play/Stop"

- The default behavior of the return key is now also toggle

161 seems to work okay...

we will see....

Thanks for the heads up on update build 161. Nice to hear it seems to be working properly. Any advice on the best way to install 161. I like running Revo after the Windows uninstall to clean up the reg. Just need to look through it before deletion.(I still have S.F. 9 on my system). Wondering if I should download the update, or just install it from the prompt on the S.F. 15 page, and then uninstalling in the way mentioned, and reinstalling it from the download the system gave me?

If you are not notified by a pop-up when SF in launched. go to 'Help> Check for updates' and OK the download and install patch. If neither work like they should, download the main installer from Magix Service Center> My Products or Magix first. All your custom settings shgld remain. The other items in the install manger need not be reinstalled.

HOWEVER... @1001001sos1001001, YOU MAY WANT TO WAIT... I have discovered Spacebar / Enter keyboard command issue, where both do the same thing now.. They are just reversed, Spacebar is 'Pause' AND Enter is also 'pause' with the "Options> Preferences> General> 'F12 instead of.... setting.
Otherwise, the Stop/Pause/Play in the toolbar and menu commands function normally. At this time I do not know if this is an isolated occurrence.. one step forward. two steps back..
Can anyone else confirm this SFP-15, Build 161 issue out

1001001sos1001001 wrote on 12/25/2021, 12:36 PM

I'll wait. Thanks.

Can anyone explain why these updates are flawed? It would seem they don't even test the fixes they send out!

rraud wrote on 12/25/2021, 2:32 PM

@1001001sos1001001 ... Addendum, I discovered I may have at some point changed the "Transport> Toggle Pause" keyboard command, though I do not recall doing so. but, it now works in build 161 when I re-created the 'Enter' key command for "Transport> Toggle Pause".
I am still not sure if it was a fock-up on my part or an issue with the build.
Sorry for any confusion
