Sound Forge 12 Is a Buggy Mess

I've already posted about what a PAIN it's been for 18 years, when storing mp3 files, to click custom and then have to click the ID3 tab instead of it being the first thing I see: literally 1000s and 1000s of times.

But now I'm doing a batch of 900 tracks and I'm just discovering that all of the 400 mp3 files I've created, and manually entered in the ID3 tag info for is not appearing during playback!!!

Every. Single. File:

Has the same song title and artist from a file I did about 2 months ago!

I've wasted HOURS of my life entering the tag info for each file!

I'll now have to load them into iTunes, 1 at a time - HUNDREDS of them, and then manually re-enter the title, artist and year allllll over again!

Another cool "bonus".

Often when I try to do a fade in on a file, I get an error telling me the file is not available.. (wtf?!)

I either have to close out Sound Forge and re-open it, sometimes a few times or: Hit CTRL Z and then CTRL Shift Z to be allowed to do the fade.

I've had more inexplicable, program closing errors happen in the last 3 months than the prior 18 years!!!

Cool! Thanx Magix!

I'm really starting to wonder why I've paid for this software......

I'm starting to rethink all the times I've slammed people for using cracks.

PS: Oh! Just reminded of another cool new "feature" while I'm working/fighting this:

The playback cursor will just disappear from time to time! How handy is that?!

A.S.S.

I feel your pain. I do a TON of audio editing and have done so for about 13 years now. The last rock solid version of SF I had was SF 8 while Sony still had it and supported it. (I think it was handed off to something like Madison media/software next or something to that effect, at least that's what popped up.) I needed to upgrade and did a trial for 9 and 10. Didn't like them. Had issues with both mostly crashing after a few hours of use so I never bought them and kept using 8. I ended up having to get SF 11 due to computer constraints. What a disaster. I had so many issues to fix on it and it still crashes on the computer it's on. Next I had to upgrade to Windows 10 from hell last December. So I had to buy SF 12 if I wanted to keep using SF since I knew it inside and out. I was hoping that the issues I had been having were fixed. But unfortunately.... I have had nothing but issues with it as well. I had an earlier post about color changes in the process windows. (Check the solution out on it.) Thanks to the forum people I did get that resolved, but gee, why do I have to keep looking for fixes? Plus it does an interface switch from time to time reverting back to sound mapper. And... it will also crash after a couple of hours of hard editing and then revert back to what I was working on weeks prior. I also have cursor issues as well. Sometimes it snaps, sometimes it don't. It just does what it wants. And yes, it will disappear from time to time as well. I also have issues with the MP3 converter and the batch processor at times as it will make a version of your file other that what you told it to do. Most of the time will take a mono and put in in stereo, then down sample it to the lowest quality. So you have to go back and do it all over again. so now I have to check every single file that's been processed. I could go on and on... I guess most people don't work the program like I do as I'm using it every single day for quite a few hours at a time. Since Magix has had it, it's not been a great program at all and has given me nothing but problems. I did a removal and reinstall so I'll see if that makes a difference. I'm not hopeful after what I found on removal. I'm afraid in the future I will need to switch to get away from all of this to something that works better and has decent support, but I hate having to learn another DAW after becoming so proficient with this one. Oh and another thing... I tried to submit a help ticket but when I did it came back and told me my software version was too old. I've had it about 11 months, so in order to get any "support" I would have to "buy" a ticket for help. Seriously? To me that's not really standing by your product or your customers so maybe it is time to move on. Sounds like it's all about making money instead of producing a good product and standing by it. If you have a great product I will tell you that. And if you have a bad one... I will tell you that as well. It's been really disappointing to say the least.

EDIT: By the way, I use dbPowerAmp to do ID3 tags. I've used that program for years and it's pretty decent. SF's tagging has not always been all that even with Sony. Buy the full version. It's been worth it to me. Copy link: https://www.dbpoweramp.com/

I never had problems with Pro 8, 9 or 10. (or Pro 11 for that matter, however I did not like the the modal plug-in chainer and record UI). No major problems with SF Pro 12 or 13 either.

I have SF Pro 10 on the Win 10 laptop and that runs fine too. aside from having to tweak the registry (Elevated Privileges) every so often after a Win 10 update.

Sony Pictures' Sony Creative Software' originally acquired Sound Forge from Sonic Foundry in 2003, which was basically the same folks in Madison WI, until Magix's acquisition in 2016.
Magix still supports SF 12 and 13, but not the older SCS versions. email tech support is free, as is this forum tech support via phone has limitations and costs.

I'm glad it works for you as well as it does, seriously. I just wish it did here like it used to with 8. But like I said earlier I use it 6-8 hours every day and I have lots of issues with it from time to time. Just like an hour ago. Suddenly the Preferences option was grayed out. My input sound changed and I found my Focusrite ASIO driver had switched back to Sound Mapper so I had to restart the computer to get the Preferences option back to change it back. The program has serious issues. If this keeps up I'm going to have to drop it and find something better. My business is my time and that's important for the bottom line. Time I don't want to have to spend chasing demons in the software that should be their responsibility to fix.

In my opinion, if you have software that you are selling to a vast audience of users, you should never have to require your buyers/users to have to go in and tweak the registry from time to time because of an OS update. That's ridiculous and not what I want to do nor have time for. A person with little to no experience with this could ruin their machine. This falls onto the shoulders of the creators of the product to monitor any upgrades Microsoft does and then send out updates to the software itself automatically. Most major companies/suppliers do this and this one obviously doesn't. It should not be up to me to have to do that. That's just being a good supplier..... 😞

It worked when it was current. That's not their problem. OS updates break stuff, and Sony couldn't predict this. Sound Forge Pro 10 predates Windows 8 and 10.

This happens, and it's not a MAGIX problem. It isn't anyone's problem, per second. That software is just well last it's sale by date.

Sound Forge Pro 11 works without a hitch on Windows 10, and MAGIX has practically given away all versions from 10 to 12, plus Audio Studio. They shouldn't care about your "issue." You've had more than enough chances to rectify it and/ or get on a more current version.

Same goes for people complaining about Ancient versions of Vegas and ACID, which MAGIX has nothing to do with.
