Sound Forge 10 quit working

randy-jordan wrote on 7/25/2017, 12:57 PM

I have been using Sony Sound Forge 10 for years. All of a sudden it quit working and would not let me open it. The that popped up said I would have to have "elevated privileges" to use it, requiring administrative registration. I clicked on the "next" button , and it all went away, still not working. I purchased the software some years ago at Fry's, but have moved and thrown away the box it came in. I've tried going to the Sony web-site to get the serial number, but it gave me a serial number that apparently is not valid because Magix will not accept it. I have searched everywhere on my PC to try and find the serial number in "properties" of the software to no avail. Does anyone have an answer out there?

By the way, I have tried calling the "technical support" number for two days. All operators are always busy. "Try again later" was all it says. I hate it when a company refuses to answer any questions.

Try "Run as Administrator" (right-click SF .exe file)

Hi

. . . . All of a sudden it quit working and would not let me open it. . . . .

Please read this post and then come back with more information - in particular:

  1. Computer specification - processor make/model, graphics card or chipset, RAM, hard drive size and free space?

  2. Which version of Sound Forge 10 are you using - Pro or Audio Studio?

  3. Windows version and is it up to date?

  4. What changed on the computer between working and non working?

If the program runs as Administrator, as suggested by rraud, then something has changed your user privileges, - eg did Windows do an update or upgrade.

To John,

Dell - Intel i7-4770 cpu 3.4 Ghz, 16.0 GB RAM, 64 bit op. sys. Windows 10, updated 2017

Sound Forge Audio Studio 10

I suppose there has been an update of Windows 10 on the computer somewhere between working and non-working. The only thing I can remember recently with the computer is that I took it in to be checked to see if a possible virus had been introduced when I almost fell for a phishing scam, but it turned out that it didn't happen and the computer was clean. I can run it as "Administrator" now, but it is somewhat frustrating. Thank you for taking the time to try and help.

Also to condex for the reference.

Hi

Thanks for the info.

I would suggest you find out what software they used to check your PC and exactly what they deleted or changed on the PC.

Also did they install any additional antivirus, malware or remote assist software.
