Hi mdlr, could be a variety of reasons.  You might be suffering from dropped frames,

so consider this advice I was sent once.

 

Attach the USB device directly to a USB port on your computer, NEVER via a hub or extension lead. If signal sporadic, then connect the USB device directly to a USB port at the rear of the computer.

Disconnect ALL other USB devices when using the USB device.

Connect the scart plug in our package directly to the scart socket you attach the lead to your TV to, and disconnect any other scart lead from your VCR.e.

cont. Reduce the number of tasks you have running in the background to a min. If none of this helps, get in touch with tecnical support, and save them sometime by running a syscheck  you can get there. If you do, make sure that the usb video converter is attached BEFORE you start it.
