@CliveakaSpyda

Hi

Assuming that Music Maker (MMM) 2021 was working correctly previously

Check that you are logged into the Store - you should see your email address top right of the MMM window.

Try the following in order:

  1. Select View, Control tab and click Song Maker
  2. Try logging out of the Store, restart MMM and then log back in again.
  3. Reset MMM back to its default settings - File, Settings, Reset program settings to default.

Note: resetting will remove any customisations you have made to the program eg folder locations etc.

Hi John, same issue with MMM20; no change after following your steps. The Song Maker is a rather key component to go AWOL. Any further guidance would be appreciated, thanks.

@AutoManic

Hi

. . . . same issue with MMM20 . . . .

Which variant (free, Plus or Premium of MMM 2020 do you have?

The Song Maker only comes with the Plus and Premium variants and in MMM 2020 is the top item under the Effects menu item - keyboard shortcut is W. The location and style changed with MMM 2021

Thank you for the quick reply. I should have mentioned - I own 2020 Premium; downloaded 29.0.5.32 recently from my account. Top item in my Effects menu is Echo - no sign of Song Maker on any menu; I had used SM before upgrading to the latest version. Same result on a clean install on a new computer...

SP. wrote on 1/30/2021, 12:46 AM

@AutoManic It seems you upgraded to MM21 which has a new Song Maker that works differently and which has to be bought from the store.

emmrecs wrote on 1/30/2021, 4:13 AM

@AutoManic

Just to slightly amplify what @SP. has told you: the 2021 version of MM is the first 64 bit release of the app. As such, for the Plus and Premium variants it is a paid upgrade. You have to buy it because it is, essentially a brand new version!

If you merely updated your installation you are now running the Free variant of MM 2021, hence the lack of Song Maker and many other features!

You can indeed choose to simply buy those features you want to continue to use or, better still, pay for the upgrade and get everything back to what you want it to be.

Thank you again for the quick replies. I love your software, but I am surprised that I am just learning this now. It's not a lot of money but if Magix mentioned losing a major feature up front I may have not bothered to upgrade at this time - I needed to use Song Maker. I tried to download my paid 2020 Premium from My Products - I did not ask for 2021. How do I go back?

emmrecs wrote on 1/30/2021, 11:02 AM

@AutoManic

First, please remember these are user to user forums so it is not our software! We are merely fellow-users.

When you write you tried to download your paid 2020 Premium do you mean you were unsuccessful? If so, I'm honestly not sure what to suggest, sorry.

OTOH, if you were successful I suspect you will need to remove the 2021 version before you can reinstall the 2020 version. This may involve a complete uninstall of MM since your current installation has, essentially, been "patched" to the 2021, 64 bit version, albeit the Free variant.

One of the "hidden benefits" of the upgrade rather than the update to 2021 is that the user had the option to retain the full 2020 version alongside the 2021 version. On my own computer, both versions happily coexist.

Thank you Jeff - I was not remembering U2U protocol. Not my first software, but I have never had to resort to forums for support. My Products lists 2020 Premium MM as my download option; says nothing of 2021 but that's what downloads apparently, then I had to immediately install a 900k patch. Also at no time did I see any option to keep 2020 presented.

Hi John CB, I was not expecting to download 2021 and needed to choose when the link clearly said 2020. I do recall the 1st screen - I unchecked the Add-on software as I always do with s/w vendors. I do not recall the 2nd page - was that the add-on or did I blow by the option? Thanks for taking the time to point out the dumb.

Hi,

I recorded the session. The second screen popped up as soon as I clicked on "Agree and Install."

I kept MMM2020 on both of my computers.

Thank you everyone for the quick-for-dummies help. So we're all agreed that it's my fault - twice! But I do take issue with the process and communication regarding the upgrade - I guess we are just supposed to use our new friends here to figure it out.

I do agree the upgrade does appear as patch/update - it is not until you click the Changes in this patch dropdown that it is identified as MMM 2021

Did you contact Magix as I previously suggested?

I am more likely to (live with the) upgrade to 2021 as recommended here. Are there any significant bugs in 2021 that I should retry to get 2020 as a backup just in case? Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Hi

. . . . Are there any significant bugs in 2021 that I should retry to get 2020 as a backup just in case? . . . .

If you have purchased the upgrade and re-installed all the Extra content - there were some bugs to be aware of, however most have been resolved - see this bug list.

If you have not purchased or do not want to purchase the upgrade and are running 2021 using the 2020 serial number then there are limitations with using Instruments and some features which would make it better to go back to 2020.

Hi John, I upgrade every year. Need help but finding it impossible to make Magix support email work; no forum info on missing Soundpools from 2023 upgrade offer - Hail Mary to someone that answers. I upgraded just to get a few Soundpools - upon installation there was no chance to order + no store credits. Please help, thank you.
