Slow rendering Movie Studio 2023

ASty wrote on 1/5/2023, 2:11 PM

Hi guys, I have an issue with slow rendering movies (4k, 25p) in Movie Studio 2023. When I want to create mp4 file it takes one hour to render 3-minute file. Graphic card (GeForce RTX 3060) works on 20% of it's capabilities. Once I had GeForce GTX 1070 and Movie Studio 2023 was working flawlessly.

My PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor 3.59 GHz, NVidia GeForce RTX 3060.

Is there any way I can speed up rendering with GeForce RTX 3060?

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

Assuming you just swapped out the cards in the same system did you check when you opened the program that the program did not reset the program device settings to CPU but accepted the new graphics card for importing processing and exporting?

Thank you for a reply. My settings are pretty similar to yours.

As you can see - graphic card did not "get down to bussiness".

The video appears to have a cinematic screen ratio.

If you have added that ratio to your clips, that is one effect that is mainly dealt with by the CPU rather than a GPU and does slow down exports. Other effects added can also slow down exports and vary quite a bit as to how much any one effect slows down the export process. Other effects or combinations of effects could also make differences as to where the program decides to have data processed.

Plus the GTX 1070 has a wider bus width (256 bit) than the RTX3060 (192 bit) which may make a difference in this instance. That's actually a tricky one to figure out as on paper the 3060 should be more powerful but in practice, depending on the type of work it is doing is not always the case. The RTX 3070 on the other hand has the 256 bit bus width and may have given the desired comparable boost in this instance. It's difficult to know unless I can replicate what you are actually doing.

That is not to say the 3060 won't be quicker in some instances when rendering but may depend on the tasks it is performing. In this instance though I think it is because one or more effects are being dealt with by the CPU rather than the GPU.

I don't know if what I have outlined is the case or not but there is more than one way to get different screen ratios from video footage.

One of my favourites is to add a plain wight jpeg onto the bottom track and stretch it to the project length and then add the screen ratio bars to it or add a jpg with the black bars already in place and use the Chroma key for transparency which is less intensive processing wise. You could make those up yourself with Windows paint. Adjust the bar width using size, position, rotation.

Or you could use a preset within Movie Studio added to a jpeg.

Another option if you have the plugin.

This is all assuming what I have guessed above is correct.

Hi

. . . . Graphic card (GeForce RTX 3060) works on 20% of it's capabilities. . . .

This is normal depending on certain conditions as @CubeAce has commented.

From the performance monitor, the RTX is using hardware acceleration for decoding, however not encoding - this is confirmed by the Export progress dialog header showing No hardware acceleration - the encoding is being done by the CPU.

. . . . appears to have a cinematic screen ratio . . ..

Is the source video 4K 4096 x 2160 or 8K 8192 x 4320 video?

Are the RTX 3060 drivers up to date - the latest version is 528.02 (31.0.15.2802).
