Slow film down to half speed - Movie Edit Pro 17

tuiruru wrote on 12/4/2011, 9:56 PM

Hi. "They" don't make this particular forum easy to find do they? . I've had a hell of a job gettin here.

I'm hoping I'm on the Movie edit pro 17 forum. If I'm not can someone give me a link?

It's about a year since I've visited the forum - before it changed - or used Edit Pro 17, hence the beginners type question.

Right! I've got a one minute mp4 clip that has been "cut" (by somebody els) too quickly - everything just zips by.

1 What's the easiest way of slowing it down to about half speed?
2) Is it possible to slow the film down to half speed and then somehow "stretch" the comentary so the pitch stays the same (there's no lip syncing involved)? How do I do it?

3) Once I've got the whole thing right do I "Save As". Or "Export" it.

4) If I "Export" it about how long will it take - a few minutes, half an hour, longer?" You're gonnask me for the specs of my machine aren't you? Didn't they have a little app to do that somewhere?

Waiting with bated breath for a reply....

Also, where do go to ensure I'm notified of replies? This "New" site is really difficult to navigate!

Hi tuiruru,

Yes, I agree with your comments about the magix.info site. Magix decided to discontinue the previous MEP Forum. A major mistake IMO. They compounded it by offering two separate sections for discussing MEP/Videodeluxe product issues, each with different formats and rules etc. You're in one of these sections now, the Forum. I prefer this and use it to raise my own questions. But others may prefer the alternative Q&A, which has the great majority of the traffic.

One significant difference is that a poster raising a question in the Q&A should get email notification if there's an answer. Magix don't do so for the Forum. I've requested that all posters (questioners and answerers) should be able to optionally get email notification of new posts in any thread, as is common practice in just about every other respected online forum. That was 7 weeks ago, when I was told it was 'being considered',

BTW, please make a point of following the instructions at the top of this page, so that help can be focused and very basic questions that are already well covered in the Help and PDF manual can be minimised.

Here's my answer to your question:

Please let me know if that helps. We're just users like you, and feedback is appreciated.

Hi Tui

Switch the mouse mode (above the timeline) to "Stretch" and then drag the end of each clip out as far as it will go which is a change/slowdown of 50% (max without unlocking the audio) and it should stretch the sound and keep the pitch the same. If not, right click the audio after unlocking it and you can play around with the pitch and tempo knobs in the controller (after switching it on) for the right effect, although you may get some un natural effects with some sounds at this much stretch. To help that you can click the setup button at the bottom of the controller and try some different algorithms (say- "smoothener")  for the timestretch and pitch shift.

If you have many clips you can right click the Audio and "Save Audio effect" and it will appear in the Audio effects tab for applying to other clips. Or it may be better to export the edited movie and drag the file back to a new project so that you only need to do the stretching once.

Pretty cool tool. have a play.

Cheers

Thanks for that Terry. Glad to know you're still around - I always found your posts on the old forum informative and easy to follow.

O thought I'd adjusted my "Settings for this forum to send me notifications of when things were posted but nothing happened, hence this late reply. Could you please reply to this so I can see if I've got it right now.

From the TV news last night it seems that Scotland came in for a bit of a blo the other day!!

Hi tuiruru,

Yes, just seen this.

The email notifications don't work. I get none.

Did you solve the problem?

Hi Terry

No, your last answer about my notifications didn't notify me that you'd posted - I had to come back here on purpose - manually no less!

It's a bit of a nuisance really, cos on the old forum I'd set things up so that things did come thru', and it was great to see how peopl's threads developed over time.

I've done all of the obvious things in "settings". Have they ever worked on this "new" site?

John

Hi John,

First, see this thread:

http://www.magix.info/uk/email-notification-not-working.forum.584201.html

Second, you might add your voice to mine by using the Feedback link, top right of all pages. And FWIW post a copy to that same thread. (Although, despite apparently being specificallyfor feedback about the community site itself , it doesn't seem to get any response from Magix now.)
