several issues

Robert-Booth wrote on 11/22/2020, 10:27 AM

I just installed Music Maker 2021, upgrade from 2013. I am using Windows 10 64 Pro

1) I can't reduce the vertical size of the program window to fit my screen, a 32" diagonal monitor

2) The text to speech option does not even show in the menus. I t also does not come up using the CTL/Shift/T shortcut. Where is it?

@Robert-Booth

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Exactly which variant of MM have you installed? If it is Plus or Premium, did you also download and install all the available Soundpools, features etc. applicable to your variant? Check under the Store and Downloads tabs.

What orientation are you using for your monitor, Portrait or Landscape? Have you tried pressing F4?

Wrt text to speech, have you read the included Help documentation? The screenshot below shows what I see there, along with the TTS screen open. It also opens for me if I use Ctrl+Shift+T.

Jeff: Thanks for such a quick reply! I purchased the Premium version 2021. I am running landscape. Regarding the text to speech, yes I have read the documentation, and the problem is not that I can't get it to work. The problem is that the option does not appear in any menus at all, that I can find. I click on Effects>Audio - nothing for T to S, then in that menu Audio Effects - still nothing.

Am I looking in the wrong place?

As to the suggestion I check the downloads and Store to make sure about the available features being downloaded.

I have checked on the Downloads tab - nothing there. I checked the store and there appeared to be nothing that looked like the supposedly included extras that I could see. Everything was a pay for addition. I did do the purchase online via download - so maybe all of that installed automatically - I have no idea if that is so however.

Anything else you can suggest? Oh - could the fact that 2013 is still installed be causing an issue? My next plan was to delete both versions and start over with 2021. Probably tomorrow though.

thanks for your thoughts so far.

Hi,

I think that text-to-speech has disappeared and I doubt that it will come back. It was very rudimentary.

Hi John.

I think that text-to-speech has disappeared

It hasn't for me! See the screenshots in my earlier post. And it works, I've just tested it!

But I do agree, it's pretty rudimentary.

@Robert-Booth

I don't think your version of MM is fully activated! When I click on Effects I see more options than you and, as you can see, one of the options under Audio is to "Generate text to speech".

On the MM Start Screen, MAGIX Account tab, do you see the following:

(I have deliberately hidden my email address). You may also not see the "Redeem your credits" option, but the final, highlighted box is where you should have entered your Activation key supplied at the time of purchase. Did you do this?

@Robert-Booth, @browj2

Hi

IIRC the Text to Speech engine relies on the Windows Text to Speech Converter which is no longer installed in Windows by default.

It is available for free in the Microsoft Store, however there is no guarantee the new version of TTS will work.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for pointing out where text-to-speech is in the program. I had taken a quick look, didn't see it, checked the pdf manual, and for some reason, speech didn't show up in the search. Now it does. Must be a senior's moment.

@Rons_Vision

Your post has really nothing to do with the question raised in the thread, about the "disappearance" of the Text to Speech facility.

Please do not hijack another user's thread in this way, but rather start a new thread with your question.

In the meantime I have hidden both your posts in this thread and @browj2's response.

Jeff, thanks for your help. You were right, the app was not fully activated. During installation I saw something about if I ordered the download version it was automatically registered, which I mistakenly thought applied to activation as well. Not. So, when I checked the opening menu as you suggested, I saw that I did indeed still have to activate. Regrading the problem with the program screens not sizing properly, that seems to have finally settled down and it is ok now. No real clue as to why. I changed resolutions several times none of which seemed to help but then suddenly fixed. Who knows why. 😕 Now it is just a matter of figuring out the new interface. Version 2013 to 2021 is quite a jump. Thanks again.
