Setting Stereo to Mono in File Properties as default

mary-o wrote on 7/28/2022, 12:53 PM

Hello,

I do voiceover/narration.

I just downloaded the new SF Audio Studio 16. I am trying to set default settings in my "file Properties" setting for 'mono', but it keeps defaulting to stereo. I tried 'custom settings" with a Mary's File Properties, but when I open the program for a new file to record, it goes to 2-channel stereo. I can convert to mono after recording, but this adds a step. Can you help?

Hi mary-o. Click File, New. In Channels, put 1, ok.

Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @mary-o,

Go into you PC's control panel Sound settings and find your audio input device 'properties' window. Select the Advanced tab and check-mark "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".

With an external audio interface, there may be settings there too, match those to what you want in SF in terms of sample rate, bit depth and which channel to record from
In Sound Forge select 'File> New' (or Ctrl+N) and set your preferred sample rate and bit depth. In the Channels box, enter "1". In Speaker placement, select 'Mono'.
When you wish to record a new file, you can use the Ctrl+Shift+N key shortcut so you do not have to bother with a new record set-up window each time. The settings should remain as the default until they are changed. You can view the your record levels in 'View> Record Options' To adjust the record levels do so at the source or in the soundcard (or external interface).
For information on pausing, stopping and rewinding to overwrite, search this forum. I think the rewind/overwrite setting was added in a mid build of SF-15.

It probably goes without saying, files should be saved and edited in the uncompressed PCM <.wav> format to maintain quality. If MP3, AAC or other compressed file types are needed, encode those from the PCM master.

I used advice from both of you and I thank you kindly. So glad this forum is here. Many thanks!

@john_barr

Your latest posts have been hidden since they contribute nothing to the discussion but merely serve to allow you to express your disapproval of other posters.

As to the answer from @rraud being credited as the correct one, I'm pretty certain that Rick himself did not give the tick but rather the OP did.

It seems that the Magix team doesn't like me, even though I presented some bugs, not all of them were fixed. I do this to help and I get nothing for it. But most people are ungrateful.

@john_barr

Hi

. . . . I presented some bugs, not all of them were fixed . . . .

In general the procedure most software manufacturers follow for bug fixing is first to confirm the bug can be replicated. This may not always be possible given the great variety of components eg processors, motherboards, GPUs and Windows versions etc which can have an influence on who sees a bug or issue with a program. Once the bug has been confirmed it is then sent to the appropriate programmers for further investigation and fixing and testing to ensure the fix does not affect another part of the program. This can take several months or more.

The removal of posts which do not contribute to the issue/topic under discussion is done by the Moderators according to the Community rule 3 second paragraph a link to these rules is at the bottom of every page in the forum.

Did you see the comment from mary-o here.
