Serial Number Invalid after August 2, 2018 update

PsychotropicFilms wrote on 8/2/2018, 10:00 PM

I just updated SoundForge Pro 12 with the new update and the serial number I originally purchased is invalid per error message.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I wonder if this is related to whether it's the Suite or Non-Suite version?

What build # is "the new update"? I'll check it out. Unfortunately Magix does not offer any release notes like SCS did.

Here's the link to the version update and download link:

Yup. I have the same issue. Funny: A life without Sound Forge is now closer than ever.

Thanks PF, prior to getting your patch link I downloaded the pre install downloader in the 'My Programs' page, and installed on top of the older build 29, it asked if I wanted to install the newer version (build 170)... Yes.. and It installed w/o issue. The serial number was already filled in. However, the toolbar, layouts and everything else were reset to default. No registration errors though. Don't know if this has anything to do with the 'patch' installer or if there is a difference.

I don't think is has anything to do with the 'suite' version, since the apps are selectable. I just selected Pro 12 (64), since the others were previously installed.

Maybe post your query in the news forum, and/or contact customer service or tech support

Did a complete re-install and that helped. 12.1 Is now registered fine. Phew.

LP, did you uninstall, or just re-installed over the old build like I did?

I suspect the patch installer may be buggy.

Uninstalled it using add/remove programs (W10,64bit) and then ran the Magic installer.

BTW: Got an answer on my Support request a bit later:

Please provide us with a screenshot of the particular error message you are receiving. Additionally, as a first troubleshooting step, let's try manually deleting the "installation.ini" file. You'll find the "installation.ini" file in the program folder under the "ProgramData" hierarchy. So, it should follow this file path:
C:\ProgramData\Magix\Sound_Forge_Pro_12_Suite
Program Data is a hidden file on the system.  You may need to do the following before being able to see or access the Program Data directory.
⦁    Press Windows Key + E to bring up an Explorer window.
⦁    Select the option that says Organize and choose "Folder and Search Options".
⦁    Click the View tab.
⦁    Under Advanced settings, click "Show hidden files and folders", then click OK.

Afterwards, please uninstall the program from your system control panel and then reinstall from this link.

Thanks LP, that's the same installer I used and got the same satisfactory result, but I did not uninstall prior.
I have notified the SF Pro 12 project manager and will post pertinent correspondence.

I haven't heard back from MAGIX Support yet, but will try the steps above when I get home from work. Thanks for the post.

Also experiencing this issue. I bought the SF Suite which may have something to do with the serial number not accepted. Was just about to record a session. Now I have to uninstall, reinstall and I hope not... rebuild all my custom layouts.

I have to say this is really a pain. Sorry. MAGIX you got feel it.

I was able to get SoundForgePro 12 Suite installed and working (serial number accepted), by following the steps in the following previous post: LACOBO_Productions wrote on 8/3/2018, 3:26 PM

My steps however were slightly different...

1) I Uninstalled SoundForge Pro 12 Suite (you can use Windows "Control Panel" to uninstall, I have a separate utility program called "REVO Uninstaller Pro that accomplished the uninstall)

2) Per LACOBO Production's instructions I went to my C: drive (folder) and typed "installation.ini" in the search bar . Anything that was listed as C:\ProgramData\Magix\Sound_Forge_ProSuite or any other SoundForge file folders in the ProgramData directory were deleted.

3) I cleaned my 'Registry' and windows junk files with utility "System Mechanic", then the utility "CCleaner" again for registry and junk files.

4) Rebooted computer and installed SoundForge Pro 12 suite using this link:

5) Program launched successfully and then I entered the Serial Number and everything worked.

Wheeew!!!
