Im using Movie Edit Pro 2013 Premium and im trying to change the color of an object in a video. Im trying to represend heat and cold so I want to change from red to blue. I can get the colors but instead of going from red to blue it cycles through the color range giving me a range of colors. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Is this similar to what you would like to accomplish?

Yes, but only for a speacific object

What you are asking can be relatively easy or very complex depending on what exactly is happening in the frame and how the object you are trying to change the color of works in the clip from both a motion point of view and how the object color relates to other colors in the frame.

1. So for example if you have say a stationary white object with no camera motion sitting in the clip and the background is primarily any color but white, that would be pretty simple.

2. If your object blends in to the background or is of a similar color to other objects in the background, more complicated.

3 If the object is similar to number 2 above and the camera or the object is moving, very complicated and challenging unless you are very familiar with creating masks and using keyframes.

If you could describe the scene in more detail and tell us which object in the scene you want to change it would be much easier to tell you how to do it.

Even better if you could post a couple of screen shots or even upload the scene you are looking to change to youtube and provide a written description of exactly what you would like to do, it would make it that much easier to give you a response that would help you either get what you are looking for or tell you that you can't do it with MEP.

Hi Brian

I assume you have read the relevant section in the PDF Manual on page 114 - Colour correction but are unable to achieve the described / desired result.

Please ensure you have the latest update installed as I think there may have been a slight bug with the mask selection pipette previously.

Once you select your colour or colours you can change their hue, shade or intensity by moving the sliders or by clicking on the centre of the colour wheel and dragging. You can change the forground colours which will be the shaded area selected with the pipette or the background by selecting the "Background" button which will change everything outside the pipette selection. You can make multiple selections to add to the "Foreground" mask area if the colour you want to change has a gradient, like the sky for instance. A tip is to experiment with one of the colour "Test images" or "Gradient" "Backgrounds" in the "Design elements" folder

If the colour area moves in your shot then the mask will track it automatically. Quite clever.

Edit: The cycling through colours tends to indicate there might be keframes set when you moved the wheel. Check there are no diamonds in the KF editor at the bottom of the effect window in the Media Pool.

Sorry for the delay, here is my sample. I want to have the white fitting change between red and blue when the product expands and retracts
